While I was on vacation I noticed my home server was offline. I came back and I can't get it to boot. Cleared the CMOS, removed the RAM (it beeped without the ram), cleared the CMOS again. The only idea I have left is to take the computer apart and reassemble it, after that I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions?

What's the hardware? You might try pulling the power cord and pressing the power button for 20 seconds or so. It'll clear all the capacitors, I've seen that resolve a no-boot before.

    Mobo: Asus P5KPL-CM
    CPU: Core 2 Duo E8500
    RAM: Corsair Dominator

Tried holding the button down for 30, no joy.

You got a PSU you could swap in? Probably motherboard though.

Do fans turn on? if not its probably the power supply - i had the same thing happen to me - even if the motherboard is bad the power supply and fans should still turn on - if not id try a different psu like msp suggested

Fans turn on. I would think possibly a bad VGA cable, but my main computer can't remote in to the server.

Normally I would say the PSU is fine, but I saw an example recently where the PSU just lost either the 5v or 12v. I forget which. But fans would spin but the motherboard was starved for power. But yeah, probably the motherboard.

Are you able to ping it from any of your other PCs?

never heard of that.. whats the point of doing it without a power cord? isn't everything pretty much off then?

hans sounds like the motherboard.. any physical signs? (capacitors, burn marks, etc)

Well, I got it to boot. I disassembled the PC and reassembled it. It booted fine, but I needed to finish up a few things internally. After connecting the CPU and system fan I have the same issue. Looks to be some weird issue with the fans screwing with the mobo. I'm clearing the CMOS right now and getting ready to fix it again.

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. For all you know the problem could be intermittent and the CPU and system fan had nothing to do with it.

I found it. Power cable shorting out. I moved it a little and I could hear it shorting.
