So I got a 32" LCD to put in the living room and pieced a very basic HTPC out of spare parts together. The video card was given to me - Nvidia g210 with HDMI to the tv. I updated all of the drivers but the resolution, while 1920x1080 looks good, it's just a tad too wide. I see half of the icons on the left and missing about 1/2 inch on the right as well.

It's Win7 x64 ultimate and a toshiba tv if that matters at all. Any ideas why the picture would be too wide?

Did you check the 'flat panel scaling' options in the Nvidia Control panel? What about the TV scaling options?

If the TV is 1080p and you're outputting 1080p but it's not centered, it's most likely a scaling issue.

I found something similar but after updating the drivers (the control panel didn't work for some reason) I found the desktop resizing feature.

If you look most TV's don't display a PC resolution that matches 1080P. Mine does 1360x768.

Seven- most of my experience is with TV's 32" and below. Even our 48" Sharp Aquos wouldn't do true HD resolutions. All though we were using a VGA, maybe if we switched to DVI-HDMI it would work.

That just reminded me, what kind of connection are you using to the TV? If the TV doesn't have DVD but has HDMI, get a DVI-HDMI converter. This will improve your image quality and may fix your problem. It did for my current TV.

    No it's not.

How would DVI to HDMI improve picture if it's a digital signal? I only imagine opening HDCP issues with that.

If he's using a VGA connector it is analog. Most TV's don't have DVI ports in favor of HDMI, but they may come with a VGA. If you switch from VGA to DVI/HDMI the picture quality is much better and problems like he is having may go away.

I use DVI-HDMI at home and I have no problems with it. At work we have a DVI-HDMI cable (they shipped us the wrong part), that is then run through an adapter back to DVI and it works fine.

If you guys are talking about my tv/pc, I use an hdmi cable. The final resolution was something like 1822x1005, just an odd one but it looks great.
