So I had one when I lived in Colorado Springs and was an awesome car in the winter. When I was moving up here to Denver, I sold it since a) we get less snow and b) they actually plow frequently (insert quip about quasi-libertarian state here). Sold it to my brother since he was just out of high school and needed a vehicle. Now, just before I did, I told him he needed to get a transmission flush. He never did and for whatever reason, it's now sat in my parent's driveway for a couple of years since apparently it "doesn't shift properly". Since this forum has some motorheads, I'm curious what I'm looking at to get it running and if it would be worth it. An idea on the approximate cost, etc. My mom (it's in her name now) was thinking about selling it as is on Craigs or using it as part of a trade in but I wouldn't mind having an SUV again. Thoughts? Suggestions? Punch my little brother in the cooter?
Has anyone even checked the trans fluid level? Unless the trans fluid has burned and separated I don't see how old ATF would make it shift like shit(something's boned?).
I doubt anyone has checked the fluid since it has no Trans dipstick. Checking the fluid is done at the oil pan. There are two side plugs on the pan. Oil is sucked out and pumped in through those simultaneously. To check the level you remove one and oil should be added until it reaches the bottom of the hole (and starts to drain out). Check your fluid level first. If it is the trans and it is RWD, you can pull it yourself and take it to a trans rebuilder and swap one out. Reinstallation is pretty simple if you have a smooth level floor and a trans jack. The Passport is basically a rebranded Isuzu Rodeo, which uses a GM drivetrain if I'm not mistaken, so they are plentiful.
