Nothing major, just a nastygram and the material removed. I had two videos of travel photos and camcorder movies accompanied with music that was copyrighted (the B-52s and Jimmy Buffet).

So how in the fuck do they pick these needles out of the haystack? The videos were something that got extremely low view counts, almost entirely viewed by my family and friends. I'm assuming they have some sort of search algorithms or something.

I've had it happen to me too...yet I see thousands of videos with copyrighted material on them that had been on there well over a year and thousands of views....

    It's all bullshit...

They do. I've refrained from posting up some vids after realizing that the music was put in them as an integral part of the vid. I seem to get away with it playing in the background as in:

    YouTube - Dynamo4.1

it seems to be the only way I get away with "meaningfull lyrics in my vids.:unibrow:
Sometimes it takeas alot of different 'takes" to have the right commercial and/or the right song playing at the right moment.....but what the hell, it's all a crapshoot:unibrow: anyhow. when i was talking about "the human footprint', I was really fortunate that an ad from a tire store came on during the first take. "I luv it when a plan comes together! That's part of why I say that in my vids:-D. i tune to a certain FM station that seems to play all the right stuff at the right freakin momment...sometimes it's so dead on it's spookey!
A good thourough read of the "copyright info" may help, but there are alot of gray areas in the interpretation.

That falls under 'fair use" i believe. if the vid enhances the number, it may not get challenged by the holder of the copyright. The holder of the copyright in this case is not affilliated with the RIAA, who, by the way, challenges every fucking thing they can because they are more into moneygrubbing than the art.

honestly... i think they have a system to select the "personal" ones that have no benefit to their own music sales.

kinda hard for me to explain.. but..
take a well put together, edited video that EVERYONE can enjoy with some copyrighted music, if it goes over well with the crowd, the labels can take that risk for more music sales because of that "catchy tune in the most popular youtube vid"

versus, say, a personal home video of no benefit to anyone but you and select family and friends.. that copyrighted material would be considered bad advertisement for itself and the label.... soooo they target the less important vids with their music.

also, consider high quality versus low quality and full length? the music track is in a video.
high quality full tracks are more likely to be targeted.. thats why i choose some obscure ass music with lower quality and i snip the beginning and ends pretty hard before editing into a video... in hopes to cut down any "nastygrams"

part of the reason for the long upload time is that the vid has to pass through filters. the filters find DRM materials and CR signatures embeded in the tracs. Copy that music from radio....no drm, then try it.

Probably the same way the iphone figures out what music is playing...
