I'm keeping my eye on generation 2 and 3. Maybe by then they'll open it up to a whopping TWO simultaneous application, or at least put in a USB port or SD card slot. I can't speak for the speed of it compared to what I have, but Acer Aspire One + Ubuntu is pretty rocking fast. There's even a touchscreen mod for it, and total cash and prizes would still come in under the iPad.
I can't tell if that's a joke or it's real. either way, I'm already sick of how much the media is on the iPads dick.
I am in total agreeance. I can't even browse gizmodo, because the 1st three pages are nothing but ipad knob slobbing.
http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSecondCityNetwork#p/u/0/bN-Urg7CUDQ What the iPad is really used for. I'd love to have one.. but only because it's a shiny new toy. I'd rather have a netbook or something that can do more than one thing at a time. As for replacing books and such.. not for me. I like having rows upon rows of books to show off to people who visit my house so they think I'm really smart and well read (because I'm kind of shallow that way). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAl28d6tbko
In that famous commercial, Apple fails to tell people that they are actually the face on the videoscreen, rather than the runner with the hammer! (I don't remember her boobs jiggling this much!)
her nipples were hard too.. mustve been cold on the set. it is weird how apple created that commercial to combat ibm and their "big brother methodology" and how its now coming back to bite them in the ass.
On a brighter note, I have discovered that the iPad has a SD card / USB camera adapter that fits into the port on the bottom. My real question is would it detect a mass storage device? If so then my interest is peaked a bit.
I think the 2nd gen iPad will have a camera and maybe multitasking. If would've been even more expensive if Apple had added those features now.
Our bookstore on campus has a kiosk with 3 iPads. Holy fuck I want one! I spent only about 5 minutes messing with it, but it's definitely something awesome.
bring on the wifi/bt home automation/remote apps. bring on the bt/wifi controlled tvs and media centers! i want this square piece of shit sitting on my coffee table controlling everything
Yeah, the two newest complaints I'm hearing are 1) wi-fi reception sucks donkey dicks, don't lay the device flat! And 2) the headphone jack at the top leaves the cord hanging in front of the screen, unless you have really a long headphone cable and can route it behind. Definitely cooling my heels and waiting for generation 2...
It's main purpose imo, is to sell aps. Not acually be usefull. There are just too many hardware alternatives that do everything better.
I think j0k3r said he has one.... The iPad's definitely not perfect--but that's not the point. Remember mp3 players before the iPod? Clunky and unrefined. What about cellphones? How many of them used touchscreens before the iPhone came along? As for tablets, manufacturers have been making them for a while, but they've been a niche product. Now Apple is going to get the ball rolling with help from the app store, like mistawiskas said.
I love my iPhone, I would make it my second wife if I could. Any tablet I buy MUST have a fully functional OS on it whether it be OSX, Windows, or Linux. This is the major hit against the iPad for me. HP Slate for me.
^^^Agreed. My first MP3 player had a laughable interface, clunky both physically and in software. Along came the iPod and BAM! I could hear the angels singing... The iPhone is the same way. iPad will likely get there, but I think it's more of a niche than either the iPod or iPhone. It's really only suited to netbook users, and given it's current limitations I just don't know how well it's going to suit their needs.
that's the thing, we shouldn't have to "get there". it's been, what, three years since the initial iphone launch? oddly enough i have to disagree to even allow multitasking. part of the niceness of an iphone is that it just works and is fast. i'm sure part of that is it only runs one thing at a time. i guess they have to compete with android that multitasks but i'm not so sure it's a good idea. people are going to buy iphones regardless if it has multitasking. I don't really think that is keeping people from buying it. the locked down nature of apple is what keeps me from buying it.
For some people, Apple is the devil. For others, it's Microsoft. I think the iPad will benefit from multitasking. We'll see what happens with the iPhone. Either way, I'm excited. I want an actual Android/Chrome OS/Chromium/whatever tablet!
