Work just sent me a new laptop to replace my ailing Latitude D620. They sent me a Latitude E6520. Core i7-2620, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD Hard Drive, nice bright display 15.6" I think (???), backlit keyboard. It's nice, definitely much nicer than my crappy D620. The SSD hard drive has convinced me to upgrade my home PC to an SSD. They are super quiet and fast. This things boots stupid quick even with all my development apps, device emulators, and all the IT management apps on it.
D620, ouch! We've been pulling our 620s out of service all year. I'm rocking an E6400 still, but I just upgraded to a Crucial SSD drive. Now I'm SSD both here and at home, there's no going back!
Yeah, it was hurting; definitely showing its age. However, I didn't do much development on it. I have several VDMs I would remote in to and work on those instead. They are much more powerful. This laptop will allow me to bring that back local though. I'll still use my VDMs. I hate moving things around our MPLS cloud. Some things are fast, but mostly it's slow. EDIT: We just just upgraded our VD broker to 5.0 as well so it'll handle 3D acceleration much better. I do very little 3D now-a-days, but it will be nice when I need to.
