Finally decided I've been rocking my Q6600 system long enough. With this build I figured I would go pretty big. Intel Core i7-2700K CPU Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 Z68 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600 Corsair Carbide 500R Case Corsair AX1200 1200W PSU Corsair H100 Liquid CPU Cooler Crucial M4 256GB SSD MSI Radeon HD 6990 GPU I'm also taking the Radeon HD 6970 I have in my current PC and putting it in this new one for some mad Tri-Fire action Oh, and the reason I need the GPU power... I also ordered 3 of these for some Eyefinity action. Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23" LCD Monitor I'm hoping with the H100 I can hit 5ghz with the 2700k. Pics to follow
SandyBridge-E (extreme line of sandybridge) cpus came out on monday, more will be released in a few months but they are all stupid expensive and don't have a good price/performance ratio but the X79 chipset is decent but also stupid expensive. Ivy Bridge is coming out Q1/Q2 next year which is a die shrink of sandybridge (32 to 22nm) so its more energy efficient and suppose to have a 20% increase in performance over sandybridge and can supposedly decode multiple streams of 4k video. Another cool thing about the Ivy Bridge platform is that it will have integrated USB3 (finally) and official support for PCI express 3.0.
The Sandy Bridge E chips were just released, but there really aren't too many benefits for gaming. It's a 6 core cpu but the tdp is 130w. Ivy Bridge will be coming up sometime next year. The MB I chose will thankfully support it.
Just go with a Dell/Alienware....better yet a Gateway! So much cheaper and much less of a headache. Just kidding.
From all accounts it's just a binned 2600k. Figure it will be able to overclock a bit better. From what I've read it seems a given that these will hit 5ghz. A lot seem to do it at about 1.35v too.
oh. either way, killer build mannn. you'll be able to max out anything for the next two years at least. fuark! a 6990!
Don't forget the 6970 . But I doubt I'll be able to max out everything, not with Eyefinity anyway. 5760x1080 is a lot of pixels to push.
Yeah, I figured since I plan on putting this case on my desk rather then on the floor I'd get something other then a plane black or dark grey case. Also the 400R and 500R cases handle the H100 coolers really well.
Wow. For me right now, I would need a new board, cpu, and throw in a second ati for some crossfire lovin'. But that's 500 or 600 bucks, and my PC right now plays BF3, at 1680x1050 with everything set to high, without any issues.
I love my dual monitors and while three sounds even cooler, I still can't imagine what I'd actually use three for other than like flight sims or something...
Heh, if your a techie you can always find a way to use a third monitor, what kind of desktop case are you using Shabaz? I really want to upgrade my desktop right now but I can't afford too...
Right now I've got an Antec P182SE. It's been pretty solid. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129026
I'm with 950 on this one. Multiple screens do have a useful limit for general use. And I think for most people it ends somewhere between 1 and 2 screens. Personally I'm planning on making my next display a single 32" LCD 1080p TV. One large screen that fills to the periphery of your vision, at least to me, seems like a more useful setup than even 2 smaller screens. Especially when that large screen can also do 3D.
I have a combination of both. 2 24"s for everyday use and a third (32") 1080P wall mounted right above those. The 32 is only used for screening or playing movies (and streaming the UFC fights). Most of the time it's on Discovery channel while I surf the web though.
I've seen pics of 950's dual monitors and I still don't get it. What the plus? I'm ignorant about this because I've never tried it.
