For $2k base model. Not bad at all. I see they give you choices on RAM, CPU and HD. However no choice on GFX... As for the mouse, they converted a touch-pad in to a mouse basically.

Overall definitely a good work horse.

Looks pretty much like the last generation really. Other than faster components and the LEDs in the display, anything major new? Do the LEDs do localized dimming for better contrast?

Damn, I think this might be my next PC purchase even if I just use W7 + VMs on it.

Seriously, every mac mouse I have ever used has been a steaming pile of shit. This new one looks pretty awesome with the touch technology and everything.

Legacy Mac users flipped when they got rid of it on the MacBook. The iMac is big enough that it's not wasting necessary space and it's still useful for Target Disk Mode if and when your Mac craps out.

The fact that the Mini DisplayPort on the 27" can be used as an input is freaking awesome. Also, I'm going to need a new mouse.

I totally didn't see the mouse, color me impressed. Like I am interested in getting one. I love the trackpad features on my Macbook (pre-trackpad upgrade, so it lacks swipe) but those are natural to me. Imagine having that on my mouse too. I was just lamenting how crappy pc notebook trackpads suck in comparison, now mouses do to.

Two of my friends just bit the bullet on the new 27" i7 iMacs. One has been sitting on an original 20" Core Duo iMac and didn't want to upgrade because lack of matte finish screens. Well this one had everything else making it worth the upgrade. That being an LED IPS panel, a proper video card option, and a desktop CPU. My other friend has an older i7 machine already, but this new iMac would actually be an upgrade for him. Exciting times, glad apple is really pushing the bar imo.

Yeah, by releasing hardware (core i7, ati 4850) that is over 1 year old. Yeah the mouse is awesome but pushing the bar? I donno, that's a bit much.

Lets be fair Ali. It's an pretty damn nice "all in one" (not a desktop). Regardless of what brand is stamped on it.

Uhh, yeah, no... learn to Google. Intel Lynnfield Core i5 and i7 Processors: Nehalem Superpowers Cheaper Than Ever - Lynnfield core i5 - Gizmodo

They just came out in September.

Granted the video card could have been something like 5770 or whatever. But for an all in one machine, that is more than adequate.

Show me a i5/i7 27" or even smaller AIO computer not from Apple?

Alright dude, didn't mean to get your panties up in a bunch. Apple rocks my socks and I will forever suck the nipple of Steve Jobs dying tit.

I don't care that you don't like it, but you were wrong about the cpu's being a year old tech. That is all.

Fair enough. I am just so fucking tried of having to spend so long replacing any part on a mac laptop or iMac desktop when their PC counterparts take a fraction of the time. My mac anger stems from this. We are finally starting to charge more in labor for mac repairs now.

iMac is not a desktop. ;) .. and laptops are always troublesome. When you cram so much shit into a tight spot, it's always gonna be hard on the service guys. Ask any automotive tech. :)

I always love how defensive the faithful become when there's even the slightest hint of criticism towards Apple. Lighten up folks!

Eventually I'll dip back into the Mac waters. Probably not for another few years though, my current hardware has got a lot of life left in it.

Who in the world would pay 2k for that? Its a nice package but..... 2k?

Honostly? How are they even in business? Must be alot of diehard fanboys out there.

Sidenote, That mouse looks annoying. There is no bulge for your palm.

You don't hold it like that. The base of your palm rests on the desk. That's how I hold my MX Revolution as well.

    yup. Same here.

The 27" iMac looks so awesome, finally some good spec bumps in the line. 4GB of ram as standard is great, and 1TB hard disks sweet. And that screen would be great to match up with a TV tuner.

However as much as i'd love to get one, I think I need to hold out a bit longer though. My current iMac is 3 years old(young), and was top of the line at the time. So is still pretty good. + currently budgeting to build a house. arghhhhh!! maybe another 12 months :/

I know, My palm and pinky rests on the pad while all my other fingers move the mouse, but my palm just falls right onto the mouse, Looks like youll be sorta holding your hand up by your fingers with that mouse.

    Lmao @ the pants remark.

Ah fuck, I just went to someones house that just bought the 27" one and it is so beautiful. The mouse was so fucking slick to use.

One complaint tho, why can't they put a USB porn (port, oops) on the side for thumb drives or something? Its a pain in the ass to go to the back or to turn this huge ass behemoth around to just plug in a thumb drive.

All in all, its not worth the money but damn is it sexy.

    EDIT: God damnit

    USB porn is not allowed.
