Hello all, I doubt anyone really remembers me. I used to be semi-active going back about five years now... aaaand then I fell of the face of the planet. I hope everyone is healthy and doing well. I might have discussed my old faithful custom rig I built for college (now nearly 8 years old). I've decided it is time for a new build just in time for Diablo 3. I'm giving myself a budget of ~1500.00 I'm not looking for anyone to build my machine, but I was seeking advice on current mobo and graphics cards. My preference is NVIDIA and Intel. I suppose I don't need the most powerful NVIDIA model, but I'm definitely looking for max out settings on some games (not necessarily Crysis 2) and to have room for future games. Processor will probably be: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115070 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...032012-Index-_-DesktopMemory-_-20233180-L020D x 2 (16GB) Any advice is appreciated.
What's your budget for a video card? Looks like the CPU and RAM you've picked are good choices. And of course we remember you. What is that in your avatar by the way, some sort of plastic monkey?
Holy hell, a budget of $1500 should buy you something badass (unless parts have gone way up in price since I last built a system 4-5 years ago). That's almost Mac money! And echoing, MSP, you're not easily forgotten!
Haha good to know guys. Over these past few years I have referred back to Tweak3D in conversation multiple times, whether it was something about tech or one of 950's crazy stories, etc. Smersh, it is a decent chunk of change. I'm going to start buying parts over the next couple of months so I don't have to look at one giant slash to my account. I'll just eat away at it and pretend it isn't the same thing over the long run. MSP, for the video card I'm probably going to try and stay a little under $400.
Oh and the monkey head... When I was big into Goldeneye: Source, I came across this picture. I forget the exact details though. It might have been a prop the Dev team made or it was some random picture tagged because its eyes are close to a gold color.
Wtf? Wait for Ivy Bridge dude! Its coming out next month and the top end Core i7 will be priced a little bit above what the 2600k is going for right now (its technically going to be the same price but im sure retailers will have inflated prices for a few weeks). Seriously, do yourself a favor and wait. As for the motherboard, any Z77 chipset board from Asus.
Good call man! I didn't even realize it was slated for a release in a month. Doing a little research into it, it looks like it is definitely going to be a better investment. I came across this article: http://www.techpowerup.com/155994/I...dly-Better-Performance-Than-Sandy-Bridge.html Those are some big jumps!
If you just want to build a system to play game at max setting. There is no need to waste money on 2600k chip. Hyper threading is not used by any game and if you look at any benchmarks between 2600k and 2500k you will see no difference in gaming. Even in software use, the difference is of few seconds speed wise. i5 2500k Chip will be more then good enough for least 3 to 4 years, when it comes to gaming. Easily O.C to 4.5 so dont have to worry about bottleneck. For gaming you will never going to need more then 4gig of RAM, so if you go with 8gig you will never have to worry about any thing (when it comes to gaming). Make sure you get really good reputable PSU like SeaSonic, Corsair or Antec. The money you save going from i7 to i5, put that money toward GFX. HD 7870 just came out and can easily max out D3 probably, also the card has really great O.C potential. HD 7970, currently the fastest card out. If you really dont like AMD then wait for Kepler it should be out in few weeks. However with AMD 7k seires card, there zero core is really great and very efficient power wise. With eyefinity you can paly D3 on 3 display easily. In your 1500 budget you can easily get the best gfx no problem, and build a beast that is also very efficient power wise. April 8 new chip sets are coming out Z77 and few more. For 1500 budget, you can get SSD easily and improve boot up and software functionality. May be put D3 on it and not have to worry about loading time lol.
