I've lost interest in my scout. All of my friends have gotten out of 4 wheeling and the other people I know won't want to do anything as big as I want to. Another thing is I wont be able to buy a trailer or go on any trips because of time/school. Last, my truck is big, and I never use it. I am asking 5k for my scout, I figure I can get 14-15k for my dodge (hint hint jishory ) Main reason for selling is I want to look "not so country" for NASA, and I may be driving 60 miles one way to work each day. I'm looking for suggestions on cars. I am hoping to have 17k to spend. I am finding 2004 Lincoln LS with <40k miles for 15-16 no problem. I have also considered getting a TDI Jetta. Moderately looked at Imprezas, Mauraders, and CTS. I am basically looking for a nicer car for less then 17k bucks with less then 50k miles, preferably less the 40k miles. Toyota/Honda are out, if I do get one, it'll be a cheap POS and I wont really care what it is. Trying to stay away from imports because parts are expensive, but if the right one comes along, I probably wont pass it up.
Toyota and Honda are out? You have something against reliability and resale value? And Honda has the best fleet gas mileage of any auto maker on Earth. 60 miles each way to work = you need a Honda. You looking for sporty? How many passengers seats do you require?
Wait, you're trying to stay away from imports because parts are expensive but you're considering a Jetta? Consumer Reports Article - MSN Autos Notice the Jetta on the least reliable side? Most Dependable Vehicles - MSN Autos A list of the most reliable cars by category. If you're really digging a VW, at least upgrade to an Audi.
I do have something against resale value... I'm buying used = i want bad resale A 2004 civic goes for 12-13 around here, a 2004 LS with ~ the same mileage goes for 15-16. The LS is a $36k+ car. I just really am not a fan of imported cars. I'd prefer to buy an American car. Passenger seats.... I have not really put much thought into that yet. I'm not terrible interested in a sporty car, just a nice one. I'm only considering the Jetta because I can get the TDI, and I really like diesel cars. I am more interested in a V6 LS... good milage, nice interior, looks great I think. I want to get 20mpg city and 30mpg highway.
You should have a look at Pontiac Grand Prix's. They are very comfortable cars for traveling, dependable, yet pretty quick depending on which package you choose. They can comfortable carry a driver with 4 passengers for long distances, and have a ton of style. They average 20mpg/city and 30mpg/highway. Just another car to consider. http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Spec_Glance.aspx?year=2004&make=Pontiac&model=Grand Prix&trimid=-1 ~Will Courtier~
Yea, and the LS is the most reliable Luxury car :-D I have looked at the grand prix, planning to stop at a dealership this afternoon and see what they have. Maybe i'll test drive some and see what happens.
Well, reliability is less of a big deal for you guys who are skilled at turning the wrenches yourselves. I have neither the skill nor the time to work on my own. Used, good gas mileage... a diesel would be a good fit. But with $17 grand to spend you have lots of options. Hell, you could probably get a new Honda Fit for that much. Gas mileage is phenomenal, and supposedly they are fun to drive. Hell yeah, you could even get the Sport model. 27MPG city, 33MPG highway... 2008 Honda Fit - Options and Pricing - the Official Honda Web Site
a big piece of advice i can give is.. narrow your decision down to 2-3 cars.. then join up at that cars "forums" or lurk around for a while to get an idea of how reliable and upgradable the car is. Also, the bigger the community there is for the car, the better you will have others to help you and a bigger effort to keep the car maintained.
but would you be interested in my dodge I am liking this one.... Cars For Sale: Car Details - AutoTrader.com
I found this one a little while ago.... that 6 year 75,000 mile warranty is quite nice I must say: Cars For Sale: Car Details - AutoTrader.com
both are VERY nice, but i must warn you.. light colored leather is a piss to maintain or keep clean.. it all just depends on your cleanly habits and whether or not coming from work will dirty your car up.. looks like you really want an LS.. if thats the case why not splurge for a V8 model? If you buy a lincoln, buy from an official lincoln dealership. That way you get their authentic ford warranty and not a 3rd party aftermarket warrenty. What about a marauder? i wanted one of those but damn they are hard to find.. and whatever youre interested in, make sure you get them to put it up on a lift so you can see the underbody.. you dont want any rust..
You can get a brand new Subaru 2.5i for that price. You could also get a 3-4 year old Subaru WRX if you want something with a little more balls. I get about 35mpg on the highway with my 2.5i. I don't know if AWD is something you are looking for, but it was for me since we have pretty bad winters along with the shittiest roads(dirt roads) here in Jersey.
Why? So in 3-4ish years you'll have trouble selling it for a couple thousand bucks? American car resale = shitty, remember an LS is just a Ford with leather and some nice features(no offense Torx) And whoever made the comment about "if you want a VW, at least upgrade to an Audi".. why the hell would you want to do that? So you can pay 100 bucks more for the exact same part from VW? No thanks.
Cars that I have been considering. Nissan Altima 3.5 Infinit G35 These both are around 17k I believe.
I'm torn about Mazda right now. Mazda Protege = extremely reliable and fun, Mazda 6 = transmission replaced just outside of warranty ($3,000+), fun.
I can vouch for that. My friend let me do some drifting on backroads in his MazdaSPEED Protege. VERY sick and fun car.
