Nokia turns people into traffic sensors | Tech news blog - CNET News.com

dont know if anyone caught this little tidbit from nokia.
just think about this... could our very own cellphones snitch us out for speeding in the near future?

yea, go ahead and turn your phone "off"
you think its off but its secretly sending gps information on your speed and locations...

    best thing to do?

that's pretty interesting and smart. the privacy thing is definitely a concern. It wouldn't bother me though as i don't speed or anything. bottom line is, like you said, don't break the law. it's really not hard.

If it were to become widespread for people to get tickets as a result of data collected by cellphones and service that they own and pay for, there would be an uprising against the telecommunications companies and government.

And the nerds would crack it anyway.

I'd sure as fuck convert to a full blown hacker if they pulled that bullshit.

They are starting to put cameras on intersections in my area now...I guess I'll have to buy that spray that makes your license plate over-expose.

they do this already in several cities, alongside recieving tickets in the mail for illegal parking and unpaid parking meters

thats the problem, eventually the cell carriers will find a way to sneak in a new ToS that states that any "data" coming from your phone to their servers is their property, eventually selling this information to who knows to further traffic and privacy strongholds.

    mythbusters busted that.
unless you speak of a new spray on the market

or you could jsut not run red lights?

how often do they have cameras set up on freeways? i've never seen one in southern california. unless you just speed everywhere... i dunno, i can only justify speeding on the freeway. bu speeding through a town pisses me off. i hate when people speed by my house...

the only method i can think of is creating a faux license plate with a clear cover, like a typical 90's car plate cover.. (dunno if they are illegal now)

but instead of a typical clear shield, replace it with an electrotransparent screen.

hey, if it turns out to be illegal and I get nabbed, fuck it...fine..I get nabbed. Thus far however, I have not found a clear resounding "no" for an answer, and I've even asked people who work @ law firms. They can't tell me either way.

They're trying to make it mandetory to have GPS devices installed in Oregon vehicles as a means to measure usage for a "mileage tax". This too, would be used for ticketing and the gathering of info such as where, when, how, and how long. It's fucked, and the stupid libs in Portland will probably buy into the BS propaganda and vote this shit in. Happens all the time. We have some of the most rediculous laws as a result.
