Alright, this has been going on since last year! and I'm still not done.

First and foremost, thank you mistawiskas for all your help and advice!

What started off was a laundry room remodel and because of the flooring it morphed into a living room remodel as well:eek:

    First up the before pics:
This is the living room, notice the room on the left (it was pretty useless).

Here is a better shot of the "cove".

Here is the laundry room. The reason for the remodel was because right next to the washer is the garage door, anytime my wife was doing laundry I would hit her with the door and because the space was tight it made getting to the garage a pain:

Here are some of my plans:
    The new laundry room layout.

    The new fireplace layout.

    Here are the during shots:

This is the framing for the new windows. The window on the left is for the laundry room and the one on the right will be for the living room, between them will be a new wall.

I had to build a false wall to accommodate the new plumbing lines (mostly the vent pipe). I would have used the existing wall but the wall sits directly above a foundation wall which wouldn't let me route the drain to the main waste line.

Here is a shot under the house, I have maybe 2 1/2' to work with. These are dome of the copper lines I had to move. Not fun but a very good learning experience (newb tip: soldering with water in the pipe ain't going to happen:eek:).

New door framing (despite the double header this is not a supporting wall),
    [IMG]

The beginnings of my media cabinet:D
    [IMG]

Cut outs for the new lights and fanlight (the cut out/patch on the left is where I fell through during another remodel:eek:).

Here are the living room during pics:

New wall up and dry walled and new window installed.

    Second window installed.

Framing for tv and power added.

    Dry wall up.

Initial framing for boxed ceiling up.

Boxed ceiling ready for paint, lights installed.

Texture sprayed on the walls and ceiling.

Everything primed and ready for paint.

New slider installed. This was the only thing I did not do myself. It was just too big to handle by myself. I wish I did do it thought because the trim they added around the window was mdf (I use pine) and the job wasn't well done (at least to my standards).

And here are the completed (so far) pics.

Laundry room painted and new washer/dryer installed.

    New door trim installed.

New hardwood installed (it's 3/4" solid Brazilian cherry and the color isn't that vibrant).

    Paint done.

Hardwood installed. That is some back breaking work right there:eek: Oh and the fireplace is done. It's slate tiles.

I still have more hardwood to install but I think I've come far enough along that I can post it now. I still need to make some cabinets for both the laundry room and living room. All the wires you see coming out of the fireplace go to the tv and will be hidden by a mantle which will also cover whats left of the brick and some of the top layer of slate.

It's not a whole new building like some of the guy here:p but considering I had zero skills when I bought my house I've learned quite a bit!

I have always loved that cieling treatment. Only thing better would have been to use beadboard/wainscoting in the boxes.

Hot damn, that turned out pretty sweet.
I can vouch for the fact that sweating copper under houses sucks dirty canal water through a dead hog's ass. Sometimes there's no way to stop all the water short of stuffing a piece of wonderbread in the about an inch into the pipe. The torch keeps it from disintegrating until after the sweating and you take off any diffusers on the faucets when you turn the water back on and the bread dissintegrates from the water pressure and blows through the pipe.

I forgot to add a pic of the media distribution with everything installed.

    No labels FTW!

Is that the media distro center for the whole house or just that room?

The whole house. Although I shouldn't really call it a media center, it's more for networking and tv stuff.

The reason the installers used MDF is due to the cost of SPF from Canada that's avalable now because there are not many places left locally that can be logged anymore. The tarriffs on Canadian wood is out-freaking-rageous! Hemlock trim costs as much as oak trim now.

It's really not too hard to do a one man install on a 6' slider door, just remove the vent slider section. The vinyl weighs nothing.

    That's a 9' slider!

Torx, there isn't a whole lot in there and the most expensive stuff really shouldn't have been so expensive:|
My cable is distributed through an 8 way PCT splitter/amplifier.
The 24 port patch panel was $140
I have two 8 port gigabit switches in there that I got for $24 a piece.
There is also a DSL filter board in there and a phone distribution board too.
The 28" cabinet was made by leviton and has 4 surge protected outlets in it.

If I was to do an actual full fledged media cabinet I would have gotten the 48" cabinet instead.

It's not a matter of too cheap, it's a matter of not agreeing to the terms and price for what you get. Check their services out, they suck!

Shane? You sure that's a 9' slider? It looks to be more an 8'. A 9' would be really expensive if you could find one.

Is there no way to edit your posts anymore?

Anyways I've got another update! I am 95% done with the living room (I started this damn project in april of 2010), I just have to do another coat of paint on the bookshelf and I still need to find the right light/fan for the middle of the room (the furniture will also be updated but I'll be buying that).

Were you given an error when it didn't let you? Do you see the Edit Post button at the bottom left of the last message you posted?
Do you see it at the bottom left of the old message? (trying to figure out if it's based on how old the message is)
