    Airline Fat Tax | Frostfireseeds.com

About time people are finally talking about this. I hate having to go to the airport and worry about my bags being 5 pounds overweight while standing next to some 300 pound fattie that doesn't pay a dime.

    Does anyone disagree?

Me too. It is going to be hard to enforce without weighing everyone though.

Making them buy an extra seat is acceptable. Weighing someone and charging them by the pound/kilo is excessive and humiliating. Plus, where is the line drawn? How big is too big? What about body builder types? They're larger than usual but not overweight.

have each ticket cover up to 200 lbs imo, its a very fair number

then increment overages, like 10$ for every 25lb or something

    Yeah 200 isn't overweight.

    If you're pushing 300+, you're obese IMO.

i'm 280...BUT i'm 6'6" so you would not really know it by looking at me. I think this would be too hard to regulate. There are too many factors besides weight. a 5'4" person weighing 280 is obviously going to be very large and wide. but someone of my height, i won't be. and what about people with muscle? muscle weighs more than fat but a 280lb body builder is going to fit no problem compared to a 280lb fat ass.

it's morally wrong but... financially obvious. Why should a 40 pound kid cost as much as his 300 pound mother?

You all have to think about the 'other' people that this is being used on..

Just so they can save some fuel? I don't think it's necassary

Why wouldn't they? Everyone over a certain amount should get charged in this scenario regardless their circumstances right? It's a weight tax. Its not supposed to single out just the obese.

Instead of doing it based on weight straight up, they should probably use BMI or something along those lines.

Yes. I agreeto the extra ticket deal for extreem cases. If this is to be a "tax" wtf?
The airline pays the costs of fuel, not the government. Who's to oversee such a scam? Who's to set the standards.

I don't think it should be the government's job at all. I like the idea of 200lbs though. If you think about sending a package by air mail it is the same theory. It dosen't matter if you are obese or are in shape and over 200lbs, you are still paying less per pound than a small person to move your body at todays prices.

While we are at it we should impose extra cost for people that smell and people that talk to much on flights.

Certain passengers should have to buy two seats. I for one have spent many miserable hours next to people who've gone back for 2nds and 3rds their whole lives, and I don't see why their lack of discipline should be my problem. I was on at least one flight where the thin guy has insisted that the seat bar be down, and of course the fat person argues that would be uncomfortable or they wouldn't fit. A problem, but who's problem is it? Eat a salad motherfuckers!

I'm 6'3" and about 250lbs. I am by no means overweight.

I think each airline should have a model of their seat by the place where you buy tickets, and that seat should have little pressure sensors and if a customer looks a little too big, they should have them sit in the seat, see how much spills over the arms of the seat, and then decide from there if the person should pay for an extra chair.

That's one of my biggest annoyances. Sitting beside fat people in a plane, especially when I'm travelling for three hours in the air and want to sleep. You're always worried you're going to somehow accidentally rest in someone's arm flap.

They should just quit beating around the bush and make the fat people ride in cages in the cargo hold.

Bahaha, I just thought of airline security cattle prodding some 400 pound guy into a cage.

Even if I were in shape and built, I'd be well over 200. I'd be right around 260-280. I find it unfair to do this to people who are naturally tall, built, or large framed.

    ^^

    Why?
I think they should just start at zero pounds and charge everyone a flat rate per weight. This is not a fat people thing as much as this threads making it seem...

being in shape or out of shape is outside the scope of my argument (the extra seat thing is a separate issue)

    more weight = more fuel

    its that simple

Charging by the pound would be fine but the airlines would want a base fee first. Otherwise they could get a flight full of skinny people and not make any money.

A fit person who weights 200-250 pounds, hell even 260-280 isn't so bad. It's the lady with the mile wide ass, or the guy with the gut overflowing his belt on all sides like a muffin top. THOSE are the folks that need to be charged more. They are hell to sit next to. Hell you basically have to sit IN them, like the blob or something.
