and more years since i've played HL1. punched it up yesterday and have been thouroughly enthrawled all over again. I sure wish it'd be re-made with the HL2 engine and level of graphics. I just luvvv the sound of a dying bull-squid. The thread about the "gunman chronicles" got me thinking about re-installyng all the HL1 games. But alas not being able to find a patch to play it in Vista64 leaves the game claiming i only have -2mb of ram, where i really have 4004 gigs. Anyone know a fix for this. I yearn to hear those words: "Ahyeeeeee.... damn scorpions" (gunman chronicles) again.
Yeah, I'll try that right now. Thanx well, I tried to find "properties" and I have none. right clicking the game brings up a "properties", but not an option in there to launch in 32bit.
I have no option to set launch options anywhere I can find. These games weren't purchased through steam. i have them short-cutted from my comp, so that option isn't under properties as they are with the games I purchased through steam.
The properties button for "non-steam" games is different from that one. they look like this: The games i got from steam look like the one screen you posted.... I'm screwed? I've been playing HLsource for the retro goodness.
I think you can add the launch options in the "target" box, for yours. Ignore all this below which was made obsolete between the time I started it, and the time I finished it. If you right click on the Half Life entry in your Steam games list, you don't have "Properties" as the bottom choice in your right-click menu, like this? which would bring you this dialog box? which will give you the box to type in launch options? Edit: and in the time it took me to make this, another has done so, and it's been replied to.
Right, Gunman Chron runs as a mod on the HL engine so you need to go into "properties" for HL not gunman.
This is what I'm trying to say: No I do not have the "properties" as the bottom choice, my steam purchased games do, but the so-called "non-steam games" like halflife, blueshift, gunman chroniocles and opposing force, that i purchased along time ago and (even before there was a "steam" and uploaded to steam.....do not have the same menu altogether: . On the games I paid for through steam.....I do. If I go to the launch options for HLsource, what do I do next?
Wiskas you said you wanted Half-Life remade using the Source engine? Well your prayers have been answered.... It's being done and for free I think too
whooohooo!!! I entered the 32bit, I'll check to see if anything works by changing the source launch options.
I was thinking, maybe this would work? Also, you can use the non-steam CD-ROM to enable the steam version of Valve games like Blue-Shift. That's how I originally started playing Half Life on steam... And once again, there are a boatload of responses and replies between the start of my post and it's end... My snow-frozen fingers must be typing super-slow today...
Is this the error you are getting? "You're system reported only -3824.00 K of physical memory, Half-Life requires at least 16 MB."
Why yes it is. looks like I'm registering the keys with steam then. Update: i'm DL'ing the cach files on steam now. i'll letcha know if it worked.
FPSBANANA > Forum > HL - Half-Life > Other/Misc > I need help ( memory problem ) ? Basically run it in win98 compatibility mode. If you have vista. Locate the exe for hl1 right click > properties compatibility mode: win98.
zomg they have come a looong way since I last checked in on this project. I can't wait. This is actually a mod I would pay money for. Like probably new game price.
Success!!!! It took some fooling around with various compatability modes and reinstalling as well as doing the trip over at steam, but they all work now....."shore could use a shotta red-eye". Thanks alot guys. while i was over at steam, I DL'ed F.E.A.R 2. The first one gave me the heebeejeebees, let's see what the second will do.
Proceedure: *run CD and install game on HDD in win98 compatability mode * upload to Steam as "non-steam game" * register the CD key with Steam. It only took one key to register all the expansion packs. *set launch options to 32bit *let Stean update the games....took about an hour with thier slow assed speed (2-60kbs) *check to see if games launch from Steam 'games' menu * some didn't so I tried win95 and then winXP compatabilty modes, running games with CD inserted in drive. * now every single game is up and running.................Ahyeeeee....damn scorpions!!! A huge thanks to everyone for the help!
