This is what has disappointed me most about the Obama administration. Instead of stopping this stupidity from the Bush era of paranoia, he took the ball and ran with it. My other problem with this administration is it's tendency to enforce law via legal over-reach, interpreting laws beyond the point of liberal interpretation, and into the realm of brain-dead lunacy. I don't see the Republicans being any better in this regard, on issues I care about. :)

Edit: What's a "tinfoiledcack", anyway? These obscure terms will be confusing to the Government agents who are tracking all your internet traffic now, Torx!

I mean.. it's not like he has any proof or anything. Lots of "they could", "it's possible" and assumptions. Not saying that there may not be any truth in it or anything but this type of speculative journalism can get a bit ridiculous.

Yes, that does put it more into the realm of editorial.
Then again, federal income tax used to be a voluntary thing and Social Security used to be solely an individual retirement account.

Before they added disability to it. And it wasn't a retirement account per se, but rather, it was... insurance. What messed it up was our increasing lifespan. When it started, most folks on average died at around retirement age, but now most folks can look forward to a long slow decline taking them into 80s, 90s, or even 100. Couple that with decreasing population of younger folk paying in, while the many of the old folks are actually pulling out more than they put in, and you have a recipe for fiscal implosion. All this is aside from the fund-raiding to pay for other stuff...

Bad analogy, I know. My point was that there's a lot of SOP's that didn't begin the way they became.
