Alright, my friend's computer is bugging the hell out of me. MS word will not open any files. It gives the error "File (filename) is not available." or something very similar to that. I repaired the installation, didn't work. I uninstalled then re-installed and still no go.

Also, every time it opens, it gives an error for every .dot file (template file) that it's supposed to load. Says it cannot load it, then gives the address of the file.

Another thing is, when you try to close it, it tries to save on top of the old normal.dot (standard template). I deleted the original, opened word, it gave all the errors for the .dot files, then i closed it and it didn't say anything about over-writing the normal.dot file (I erased it, duh). I open word again, same errors as before, then I try to close it and it wants to over-write the damn normal.dot file again.

What the hell is going on with this? I didn't try any other programs, like excel or powerpoint.

I showed my friend how to open the files using Wordpad, because that opens all the documents just fine, it's just Word that will not open any files.

    Help?

Check to see if acrobat reader is installed and if so, uninstall it, then uninstall office, reboot and reinstall office. Any time I see an error about .dot files I look at the add-ins. Check http://support.microsoft.com as well.
