I am thinking about getting my dad an accessory for his Bass (1964 Fender Jazz Bass). The only things I can think of are a distortion pedal and a stand. He already has an amp/speaker cabinet. Any suggestions?
How about a new guitar strap with his name in it? I'm no musician though, so maybe that's like taboo or something.
What sound are you looking for? I've been getting really close to replicating the Death From Above 1979 sound, and know the hardware to do it.
Yep. Give us some ideals for tone you're looking for. You can always do with some new strings and cleaning supplies. I always recommend a good compression rig, either pedal or rack. EQ, as well. Sansamp's gear is pretty good if you want more growl and bite in your sound, too.
Buy him some La Bella flatwound strings. They're quite high quality strings and are renowned for their great tone. I'm sure he'd appreciate that. Don't buy your father a distortion pedal for his bass, just don't. However, an EQ or a DI box (Sansamp) would make for good gifts.
How much would an EQ cost? I'm not sure about buying him strings b/c he is pretty picky about everything, and he probably likes the ones he has.
bass EQ pedal, Boss GEB-7 Bass Equalizer Pedal and more Bass Effects at GuitarCenter.com. also, what does he already have
Nice bass I have a 1996 62 Re-issue fender Jazz. I wouldn't recommend strings or any kind of effects or anything. How's his case? if he has an original case in good condition I wouldn't replace it, but if its beatup you could get him a nice new fender case.
I know...he's very protective of his bass. It is one of his cherished possessions. Update: he has strings that he just bought this week, so those are out of the question. I don't think he'd want a new case. I may just get him a bottle of Rum or Vodka for his summer drinks he makes. It is a much easier present and considering I just got laid off, it is a smarter purchase.
