I haven't honestly had time to mess with it, so I have been just using it as is since I got my phone. From reading through here, I figure I will give it a shot. My phone is a Mytouch Slide 4G. How in the hell do I root this phone? I did find some supposed instructions (http://theunlockr.com/2011/09/09/ho...-mobile-mytouch-4g-slide-revolutionary-method), and started running through their instructions. The problem I am running into is with the Fr3vo file. What type of file is it supposed to be? When I download it, there is no extension and Windows doesn't recognize it. I tried changing the extension to exe, zip, and a few others to no avail. The instructions claim that you extract the files and use them to temporarily root the phone. What am I missing here? I hate instructions that you can't follow verbatim!! ~Will Courtier~
First thing, check out XDA Developers if you have not. I believe this should take you to your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1209 Looks like they even have an ICS ROM. Anyways, your Fr3vo file LOOKS like you need to push through adb to your phone and then run it using adb. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1150006 Seems VERY complicated compared to a SGS or other device. But I would check the first xda link I gave you. I'm sure you can find better information, even videos, on how to do what you want to do. Run applications on your phone that you otherwise couldn't. It's like administrator access in windows server. You can do ANYTHING with your phone. Kind of like when people jailbreak their iphones. Only difference is, google doesn't care. They work, and a lot better. Takes off the bloat manufacturers put on the phones as a result of carrier needs. And find they work a lot better. My SGS, since rooting it, works SO much better than what Samsung loads on it because it's actual base google.
