Man Wrongly Convicted Gets $5,000 Plus Legal Fees For Prison Time - WFRV Green Bay: Northeast Wisconsin News, Weather and Sports ~Will Courtier~
That's pretty bad. He should at least get compensated for what his salary would've paid him over the time of his sentence.
what smirnoff said. plus another sum of hefty compensation for all the anal penetration he likely endured. child molesters and rapists aren't looked too kindly upon by other inmates. Their crimes are confidential among the populace, but that isn't to say that some moral correctional officer doesn't leak out who the rapists and chid molesters are to some of the more hopeless inmates...
Talk about injustice. I wonder if he can sue the prosecutor or anything? If this went before a jury he would get hundreds of thousands, if not millions.
One would think.... But we all know how unfair the justice system is her in the States. I guess that ther are bound to be mistakes in any justice system, but there should be more reimbursement. ~Will Courtier~
This is exactly why I am against the death penalty, or at least one of the biggest reasons. Our justice system is run by humans, and humans make mistakes. Death is one mistake you can't undo.
Nope. Even if he takes it to the Supreme Court, he won't get a better deal, because moral or not, the State followed the Law, and is bound by the Law, to do what it did. The Judges would say it's now up to the Legislators, who will rail at the Judges... and do nothing themselves.
No, our justice system is not only run by humans, it's run by humans that are state employees. Double bad. A friend of mine had a brother. Convicted of a murder he did not commit. Spent 18 years in OSP, genetic tests and a confession on a dying bed, led to him being found innocent, he was released, transported back home here to Grants Pass. Less than a year later he died of heart problems. I don't even think he ggot 5 grand for all that time that was stolen from him, time that turned out to be his last time. The justice system has pretty much insulated itself from any consequqences of the errors they commit. Same holds true with most all government agencies.
