Welcome Sam, but wrong forum (http://www.tweak3d.net/forums/tech/).

Pings of 100-400 are feasible depending what type of connection you have. A LAN game should respond 1-10ms, but going through your ISP you could easily see 100+ depending on the type / quality of service and the location of the server hosting the game. Post some more detail, such as the ISP provider and type, make and model of the networking gear involved, OS info, etc.

Hey man.. thankz for replying so soon.

Back to my problem. I am using windows XP home and a broadband connection which connects at 1mbps. I normally get ping times up to 20-40 but now it has shot up to 0100-400 which sucks. All this started after i reformatted my computer and it has been such a trouble. What i can get for my modem is it has DSL written over it and its software has something to do with Broadcomm NetXtreme 57xxGigabit controller. I dont know if this would even help.

Urm.. besides that, i would like to know if it is possible to tweak my modem and how do i do it?

    Thank you all

    Samreet

Are you going through a router or firewall, or is your computer connected directly to the DSL modem?

    General things I would recommend:

    1) Make sure your drivers are correct and updated.
    2) Do an internet speed test, such as this one here: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
    3) Make sure you don't have anything running in the background slowing things down - virus software and firewalls in particular can screw the pooch with gaming.
    4) Contact your ISP's tech support.

You might even try a virus / spyware scan.
