    Hey guys,
Just a heads-up, the server had a hard drive failure around midnight... luckily we were able to move everything over and the site seems fine now. If you see any issues please let me know!

That would explain the outage last night. I've been having issues with being unable to visit/ping random websites and IP addresses (fark.com, massively.com, and a few others) and just thought it was my ISP being retarded again. Glad to hear everything's good.

The Metroid Prime style is borked, with missing editing icons, and reply not working, but sending one to a blank white page. You may want to restrict that one for now. I've switched to Mega Man 1.01, and now things are working again. When I switch back, the problems return.

Would have to assume RAID is in place considering it doesn't look like we've lost anything, but maybe I'm wrong. At least RAID1.

RAID isn't a backup solution. Look at dslreports.com, they had a RAID setup and a simple power loss fucked them. Its better then nothing but its not a backup solution whatsoever.

Well obviously if the power goes out and you don't have a UPS you're fucked. But it is useful in the event of a single drive failure, which happens often on servers running 24/7. Not seeing the point with that post.

I thought the industry standard was moving towards distributed servers with mirrored copies at several, geographically distinct locations. Like was mentioned earlier, you have a RAID at one site and you lose that site it's all gone. However, if it's mirrored on another server across the country (or world I suppose) the data still exists.

Speaking of hardware, whatever happened to the T3d donation drives? I actually have a job now.

Thanks for getting it back up Dan!

EDIT: Yay...I can post. I guess I should have read the part where it said the metroid theme is borked.

If anyone's daring enough to try, VB has this feature now if you go to Profile at the top, then Customize My Profile.. you can set the colors you want and create your own theme. I will work on the dark theme in the next week still.
