Hey Everyone. I just wanted reccomendations for a new graphics card. I've been on Intel GMA onboard since 2010 and need a replacement PCI Express video card I want a sub $100 card ( if possible) that performs equal to or better than a Geforce 8800GTS (320MB) PCI-e x16 card. It needs to be able to run GTA IV (and Expansion Packs) at at least 1024 x 768. I was looking at a Geforce GT 240 with 1GB memory. I would like it not to be a power glutton if possible. Let me know what would be the best option for price, power consumption, and performance.
/side note/ i cant believe the msi gtx 560 ti is still ~250. sheesh, ive been wanting to add another but not for another 250.
The bang-for-buck I bought 6 months ago was the ATI Radeon HD 6870. Less than 200 bucks now, fast, and runs pretty cool...
I bought a HD5750 over a year ago now. Awesome card for what I needed. If I go and buy a new motherboard, with proper crossfire support, and get another card...I'm set. But as it is, it does everything I want.
Here are your options, from most to least powerful: - Radeon HD 6770 - Radeon HD 5770 - Radeon HD 6750* - Radeon HD 5750* - GeForce GTS 450* And a link with a selection within your price range. *These cards trade blows depending on the game. The Radeon HD 67xx is just a rebadged 57xx, but the firmware allows the drivers to unlock some extra features (related to video playback, IIRC). I upgraded to a GTS 450 from a 9600 GT, mainly because all I had to do was swap cards (no driver conflicts), but also because anything more powerful would've ended up being held back by my CPU (Core 2 Duo E6600 running stock). All these cards take up two slots and consume around 110w under load, maybe more if they're factory overclocked. A quality 400w PSU should be able run any of them. If you want something comparable to (but more powerful than) the GeForce GT 240, this Radeon HD 6670 is what you're looking for.
Also, Google your motherboard model + whatever kind of card you're buying if you have an older PC. My Nvidia board won't work with any of the Radeons above the 5xxx series.
I may be upgrading soon and will be putting my 6870 up for sale. PM me if you're interested. I'm not too far from Bristol, so I'm sure we could do this locally pretty easily.
