monday i ordered my first mac and today the UPS man was kind enough to drop it off Newegg.com - Apple MacBook Pro MB133LL/A Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40GHz 15.4" WXGA+ 2GB DDR2 667 200GB 5400rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard - Apple Laptops http://www.tweak3d.net/forums/vbimghost.php?do=displayimg&imgid=4121
A Macbook Pro? Dammit man, I'm intensely jealous right now. Congrats! Don't be afraid of Safari or the other Apple programs; this isn't Windows. The iLife programs definitely have a lot to offer. Clean up yo' dock!
yes sparky a macbook pro. quick question, when i mount a .iso file thats a movie, how do i get it to play in quicktime?
heh, that's the same macbook pro that I got from my job. I love it. I use it more than any of my other computers!
Very cool. I've always been curious to try a mac... Is this your first hands on experience with one Octane?
Holy fuck that's expensive. You can get a laptop on slickdeals for $450 almost every day. Hope you like it though.
not really, the art department at my school has a laptop cart full of macbook's ive used them a couple of times but that was only to do research. this is my first time sitting down and playing with the settings in one or anything else on this except safari. so far im impressed with the way leopard works and the speed and a response of this system. im not pleased with the ignorance of myself with macs. i have a bunch of movies in .iso form and a shit ton of .avi files that i think are xvid coded but i cant find any codec's to play them that arent in .exe form. am i missing something where macs can open .exe files? can someone recommend me a place where i can go to learn all the tips and tricks of OS X? EDIT: fixed the .iso problem, just me being retarded. but still cant figure out the .avi files
Thanks! EDIT: in installed perian but it still shows a black screen and no sound when i open one of the .avi files my dumbass forgot to reboot the system
no shit after spending 24 hours with this thing and the help from juball this system is really sweet. im really impressed with the quality of the craftsmanship. my Acer Aspire 5100 laptop feels very fragile and plastic. this feels like its built like a tank, very solid, well balanced weight wise, the matte screen is excellent and the backlit keyboard is really nice. now if only i could upgrade the hard drive...
Congrats, that is awesome. If you end up putting Windows on it do me a favor and run / post your 3DMark scores.
in a mac, is there a way i can change the boot sequence so it will boot XP off of a portable drive? i dont feel like re partitioning and running bootcamp/vmware/parallels. yes -Sevendust- it is as much of a pain in the ass, i have to pull the entire keyboard/touch pad assembly out to get to the hard drive which is under the left palm rest, see the thread yer OS for a timelapse of how its done.
congrats! Don't hesitate to ask any questions, we have a good amount of mac users here now. As for the Video problem, I use VLC player myself. I <3 my iMac. Everything on OSX just makes sense after a while, and is very consistent. For instance, no matter what app you have open, press command+, this will bring you to the applications preferences pane. OSX has a lot of keyboard shortcuts that speed things up once you know what they are. cmd+w to close a window(or tab in browser), cmd+h to hide it, cmd+q to quit the app. cmd+` will cycle though an applications windows, while cmd+tab cycles apps just like in windows. cmd+option+esc will bring you the force quit menu. Not that you will need it often, but handy to know when or if you do need it. I find once I got used to using the keyboard shortcuts, going back to a windows computer pissed me off, I just feel like I can navigate my way around OSX much more quicker and efficient. (+ the fact that stuff just loads quicker on a mac helps)
