So geocaching has been in the back of my mind for some time now, and after a trip to NYC with a friend who is a devout cacher, I think I'm hooked. Anyone else here play?
My uncle is big into it and hid/found some caches when he was in Iceland and Japan recently, not sure about Thailand. The bigger question is: do you pull your balls out when caching?
A what now? Nevermind, I looked it up. Interesting... but I'm far too unmotivated to be looking around outside for some little package that most likely isn't going to contain anything of value. :\
Yeah, we do it a little bit. It's a fun game, and a good excuse to get outside and get some exercise. My only piece of advice would be to get a GPS with more than the "base" maps. I bought a Garmin eTrex Legend and quickly figured out the base maps were shit. So I downloaded a full blown pack from torrent, world of difference. If you're going to go legit best to buy a device with the expanded maps included as they can be upwards of 100 bucks.
Oh yeah, they're still up there. Just good maps can be 100 bucks. My eTrex was around $150. Pretty freakin' nice though, color screen, microSD slot, etc. Like Jake though I've found that it's of limited use unless I'm Geocaching or hiking in a new place, or a place with poor trail markings. Still fun to play with though.
Geocaching is a whole lot of fun! Even when my girlfriend and I are strapped for dough, we can still go geocaching. We've hit the park a few times using my iPhone app with 50/50 luck on the cache actually being there. Either way, it's a great adventure and it's interesting to look at the log book inside the cache to see how recently people have stopped by and how old it is. The first one we did was called "Benjamins in the Park" and going by the log book, there were actually $100 bills in the tupperware that was hidden in the tree. Crazy rich fucks.
