So, I can't find the thread we created over the summer about the insane prices we were paying for gas, and I was wondering how much gas has gone down for everyone else since then. Over summer I think here in Northern New Jersey I was paying as high as $3.30/gallon for regular. I just paid $2.32 last night. Diesel was the most expensive at $2.82/gallon. All the stations on my way to work were between $2.30 and $2.45 for regular. So how bad is everyone else getting bent over?
I live out in Washington state, north of Seattle. I think the lowest I have seen in a long time was 2.55 for regular. That was in August. Currently... 2.72 - 3.06 for regular! We are usually the highest in WA for whatever reason. Premium... 2.93 - 3.35 Diesel 3.19 - 3.39 --- I hate cars.
Well, I went up to North Carolina to see my Mom last week. In NC it was 2.52/gal near my Mom's house. Near my apt in South Carolina it's close to 2.75.
It's $2.79 a gallon here for regular, about $3.08 per gallon for premium (damned GTO.....). That's at the Sub base here in Groton, CT. ~Will Courtier~
gas has gone UP since the summer for us, which seems odd to me. It was really going down in the summer. I think it got down to $2.50/gal but it's creeped back up to $2.80 or so.
just after Katrina, the oil monster jacked it up to 3.79.9/gall. last summer it'd only dropped to 3.19/gal. The other day I filled up @ 2.89.9/gal, today it's 2.79.9/gal. Figures.
That's weird because I always drove to SC to get my gas, as it was generally a quarter cheaper. The funny thing is I didn't even have to go out of my way to get it, the SC gas stations were closer than the NC ones :O $2.82 at the station near my apartment in Portland.
Highest I've seen this summer is $4.15 for 87 octane. Gas station on the way home from work today on Irving Park & Cumberland(Chicago); $3.25/gal for 87 octane.
Pff, its still cheaper than bottled water or milk. I say jack up the prices to start weaning us off petroleum.
maybe. i think a lot of people will still just pay it. I don't see what the alternative is at the moment. As a person who's only way to get to work is via a vehicle, it's not fair to raise the prices. I'm already in lots of debt and can barely afford gas as it is. If there were several alternatives to gasoline powered vehicles, then it's an other store. Tell me what is out there? There a few prototypes of all electric vehicles out there but that's it. And, sorry, but not all of us can afford a brand new vehicle just because we need to get off gasoline. I have bought $2000 or so used vehicles for the past couple of years because that's all i can afford. I can't get a loan for a $1000, let alone $25,000 for a new car. Wouldn't be able to afford the payments and the insurance anyways. I personally think the only way we are going to get off gasoline is if there are alternatives to every type of vehicle out there right now (for example, an electric SUV, electric van, electric truck). Only the financially stable will be able to get them but that's a start. And then slowly, they will become used and slowly will become hella cheap for someone like me to buy.
Haha yeah that's true.. Probably close to Rock Hill I guess? I'm in Columbia, right outside the "city" part of it so it's pretty expensive.
Or we could come up with a real solution like every other nation. It's called working public transportation. Something we decided to get rid of in place of a car for every person, even if they didn't want or need one.
Ha, haha. Most of us where I live can't yell to our closest neighbor. A good portion wouldn't even hear a gunshot. Most other developed nations aren't like this. We are a HUGE landmass, we need a genius idea for public transportation to work in this country. Not saying it can't be done, but no current technology could make it possible. If I could walk or bike for 15min to the nearest public transportation every mourning to goto work, I would. How is Canada's public transportation outside of the cities?
Good luck with public transportation in Chicago, here they're cutting jobs, and bus lines, due to the fact that the CTA(Chicago Transit Authority) is broke.. they're thinking of raising the price to get on the train to $3.00. Either that, or an increase in sales tax to 11%. I got an idea.. instead of that, why don't we get rid of welfare? Or other bullshit programs like that? That should leave some extra cash.. wow.
$2.79 is the norm around here and has been for a week or so, which is damn cheap compared to last month and before then.
