I finally bought a new video card. Say hello to my little friend: Newegg.com - BFG Tech BFGE88512GTSE GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail It's the new G92 8800 GTS. I'll be happy to write up a review when it gets here. I went with BFG for their awesome warranty policy. I have owned several BFG cards in the past and have always been happy with them.
Right on, unless it's DOA, I suspect you'll enjot it. I know the difference between my old 6800gt and this card (evga8800gts) was super noticable.
I keep feeling like I'm a nub again. Every time I look at computer parts I recognize none of them. I didn't even read any reviews when I bought my last card(7600GT). I just got the one that was exactly at my price on newegg.
I am anal about buying hardware. I compared literally a dozen different reviews and comparison shopped for a long time. Sometimes by the time I end up buying something, it's already been superseded on the market. That will be different when the 45nm quad cores come out. I will probably buy one the day they hit the street. On EDIT: This is a great deal BTW. It has a $30 rebate on it so it is only $20 more than the GT card.
i'm the exact same way. I had been out of the computer scene for a few years before I bought the system I just did, you can image the hours upon hours of research I did good choice though, I've had a few BFG cards and they have all treated me well. are their any 8800GTS's that are a none ref design yet? I went with the 8800GT at the time of my build by only because I got it for under $200 back in dec. at the time I couldn't pass that up, esp not on a non - ref designed card. They're pretty solid overclockers to.
I already own all those games on my 360, the only reason I would do that would be for comparison. I am going to start with UT3 and Crysis. On EDIT: The nerd side of me will probably take over the game side and I'll mess with CUDA for a while.
I haven't really "gamed" on my PC for a while now. I do 95% of my gaming on the Xbox 360. I use the PC for the engines and mod tools. UT III is a little different story. I am a hardcore UT fanboi. This game actually prompted the purchase of the card. Crysis will just give me something something to play around with CryEngine 2. ;-) Oh yeah, the card is here, and it's installed. The thing is HUGE.
Crysys does blow chunks. Even with E6700, 4 gigs DDR2, and 8800gts, it barely runs on high settings.....forget about very high settings. I hope farcry2 will work better.
my computer is fast enought to run it on high at 1680x1050. its nice graphically, but thats enjoyable for aprox. 3 minutes untill you realize you're playing a slightly less fun version of far cry(which was semi boring in itself) and turn it off.
