Well I think its gettin about time to get a different car, one with a bit more room. So I've been lookin around, and I think I've come to really like these damn 4 door turbo AWD cars. (really liek to have an R32 skyline, but meh, too hard to find) anyway, I've been looking at teh Evo and teh STi for a bit now, and cant make up my mind. I really like the looks and power of the STi more (as well as teh fact that its not made by mitsubishi) But the Evo has alot better handling, and can be made faster for cheaper. Not onyl that, but I can find a used evo for about 5grand less than an STi. The car I would be getting would be black, with gold wheels. if you had to choose, which one would you get? have any of you heard any pros or cons of either one?
There was a discussion on this on my schools sports car forum, Ill paste some of what was said..... - WRX driver - STI driver
the EVO has better tunablility from what I understand, because it uses the same engine from the Eclipse GST. however the evo lacks a front LSD, where as the subie has 2 LSDs. but for all the LSD's in the world, the evo still came out on top as far as handling goes. Im not a big fan of the Evo's looks, but I love the sti's looks (plus that boxter sound) however, I think a used STi is out of my price range, while the Evo is right that, and I am very hung up on handling since i got the S2000. but I want to hear more opinions and ideas.
Unrelated, but still pretty damn badass. I saw a turbo+supercharged evo and it still had airconditioning. The system is apparently sequential, its just amazing. Here's a pic of that badboy. http://members.cox.net/fxt/FAT_TT_SC/0006.JPG
You're better off to get off the internet, ignore what every other dipshit that has never driven the cars before says and go out and test drive them. If you really are set on an R32 Skyline, they are stupidly easy to get and VERY common. I see them on a weekly basis these days, a friend of mine even imported one just for the resale profit. His was a GTS-t but the GTR models aren't that much more rare. I know they're easy to register up here in BC, but where do you live? Is it as easy to import them? Buying a car simply based on statistics and numbers is stupid. It's all about the driving feel and driving experience... Especially being an S2000 driver, you should know this
I watched a show called top gear where they put an evo up against a mercilago or a track (not a straight away) and the evo kept up the whole time even during the short straight way. Personally I think both cars are ugly as hell but if you are interested in those two cars you probably aren't concerned about looks as much as you are about performance.
thats an sti..... http://members.cox.net/fxt/FAT_TT_SC/0008.JPG http://members.cox.net/fxt/FAT_TT_SC/0004.JPG
my friends brother just got a STI omg, i see it driving and i want one. And as to the quote about them "both interiors sucks... its japanese building... they were never good with interiors." the saubaru is a GM car if im correct.
GM owns 20% of Fuji which owns Subaru. Thank god they dont help develop any of the interior of the WRX, otherwise they'd be made of old news papers and dog shit and fall apart in the first month
STI, I drove an Evo and I laughed at the fact that it looked like a 94 Civic when I sat down inside of it. You want me to pay 30 g's for this trash?
so tru.. so tru.. Justin, damn, I can't believe that I made that mistake. I had evo in my head when I posted that for some reason... damn, I need a good slap upside the head for that one lol. Subarus are far superior to the evo!
Because GM interiors are all plastic pieces of clunky ugly shit that fall apart or bore you to sleep when you get behind the wheel. I work at two car dealers and get to drive all the wonderful piece of crap GMs (and Fords) that people trade in... Usually they're less than 4 years old and the people are willing to take rock bottom value for them as long as they dont have to drive them anymore.
and so do all of the japanese cars you like so much... unless it is a luxury interior like a lexus they are all pretty much the same chief, the interior of my truck is tough as hell... the shit has been beat on for 18 years and its all in good shape... although i ripped it all out a month ago. we have a few late model gm's and the the interiors are nice, what are they lacking?
It seems obvious you have made your mind up already on an evo from your first post. I however would go for an sti.
Am i the only one that thinks the evo looks tons better than the sti? you guys are crazy, I'd never get either for a daily driver you feel every bump in the road, but maybe thats just more of a problem in michigan.
ok my rich ass friend just bought an evo and we went back and forth between both dealerships. I drove both cars and heres my thoughs: STI: -Faster -Less Turbo Lag -Ugly blue/black interior -Nice steering wheel -A little floaty in the suspension EVO: -Felt more nimble -Bad turbo lag -Beautiful black leather interior with leather recaro seats (what happened there subaru?) -Shifting felt solid and the steering wheel was precise -Stiff ride but nothing too bad For me, it came all down to the looks and everyday driving. I would pick the Evo just because of the interior. The STI's was just plain ugly.
havent made up my mind yet, but the evo does have a few better points (most importantly is pricing) but I still may just save up for a few more months and pick up the STi (which I would like a bit more due to looks and engine) I dunno, both cars are a trade-off. evo: cheaper, less power, better handling, easier to mod, not as good looking STi: more expensive more power, crappier handling, expensive to mod, great looking so I dunno, i am havin a hard time with this one. I just need to go drive em...Ill set a date this week and let yall know m impressions
Are you that into numbers? The cars are pretty close in preformance. Make the call on looks and save for the STi.
afaik Jackalope is in the US, R32 skylines are common know is Canada but we have different laws then the US, anything here 15 years + is fair game, its different getting a skyline in the US. around here there are tons of R32's, the GTR's are a little more rare though, i've only seen a couple.
