I've never played through, fully. So this is pretty fun.

I'm at Baal right now and then I guess I start Nightmare.

This game ate my high school. I was so into this game. I'd play on Hardcore and have lvl 80+ characters. I was in a l33t clan called Valgore.

Diablo II? I've been looking for an RPG that will run well on my Dell D610, and that certainly would! Any restrictions with pirated copies on the servers? It's so damned old at this point...

Well, I'm sure I can find a copy for a whopping $5-10 at this point. Hell, I might actually have a copy already. I'll have to take a look.

Yeah it's really cheap. I bought the "battle chest" thing for like 15-20 bucks at Walmart. I imagine you can get it cheaper.

how is the online play anyways? back when I used to play it, I only did single player as I had a 24k dial up and it didn't really play very well.

It's not bad. I like the ability to make games for a specific purpose. Not too much lag, no crybabies, etc.

I just started back up about a week ago, 86 hammerdin useast ladder. Got rushed to shit because I was in a group of friends that started at the same time. I'm already bored again with it because it feels like I beat the game three times over in a week.

Yeah cows get boring as hell. But now (not sure how new they are) there are paladin bots running that just do baal runs. Much better exp from the minions than cows so its even easier than before to level with all these bots running. But its pretty easy to ninja the drops from baal if you are quick with the clicks.

If you guys are playing still and need anything, just let me know ill pop on and give you a hand with whatever I can. I can get through nightmare no problem. Hell is a bit thougher though.

What a great game, I was playing it earlier this year and now have finally stopped. Finally stopped after 7 years of playing.

Me and my buddy were playing on the west ladder for a good 3 years, before that I was the only one playing and I was just doing single player.
We had all kinds of stuff, my buddy got into more than I and was a wicked trader, always finding crazy stuff.
I wouldn't mind playing it again, but I've done it all and just like the last time I'll probably get bored of it again. Used to love playing as sorceress, barb and pally, mostly sorc. Had alot of fun playing that game...
Heh.. its finally retired though :D

Ladder saves your character on a battle.net server and not your computer, this way it is much harder to cheat. Most of the cheating is item duplications, which blizzard is patching all the time, cheating will also get you banned for life so alot of people don't risk it.
Point being, you can play in an environment where there is a somewhat balanced economy of items (again there are lots of dupes, but much less than a non ladder environment). Its fun because your playing with characters all around the world/country in which the majority of them do not cheat, or have rare legitamate items for trade.
Sometimes its fun to go into a game and see a character with an item that you've only ever heard about, lol, once he spreads the word you see TONS of dupers coming in trying to trade with the guy. They always refuse

Actually, Brent just explained the difference between Open/Closed servers. Open servers allow for rampant cheating, while with closed servers, your characters reside on Battle.net's servers, and its much more difficult to cheat.

The difference between ladder/non-ladder is the type of items that can be found/made. There are some items that are Ladder only, so you'll never be able to get them in non-ladder unless the ladder season ends and the characters get moved to non-ladder (your equipment stays with you, including the ladder only items). There are also certain ladder only rune words (items made by using combinations of runes/gems into sockted items). Again, these will also only transfer when a ladder season ends.
There is also a ladder leaderboard, which shows the Top 100 players or something, based on how much experience is earned. Getting up there is pretty much impossible unless you run a bot constantly, or have absolutely no life.
