    Basically an accountant's computer..
he wants to push 64bit, but i don't know if he can (he needs ACT! 2000) to work
    hes using 2x 23 or 2x 24" LCD's i don't remember

but basically quickbooks, excel, usual accountant stuff..

i don't need an i5 or anything powerful like that right?

i'm wondering if an amd rig will do since its cheaper, i mean its not like he plays games

all he needs is something that supports 2x displays, usb3

only part i can use is his samsung 128gb 830 ssd and his monitors

Bottom rung stuff would be fine for him. And then just add a video card with dual outputs. Any time my finance people here ask about faster computers I tell them "Your computer is plenty fast to count the beans, not get back to it..." :)

I'm thinking Funkgab should throw in $5 in donations for every computer we help him design for someone else.

I dunno, might be risky to get involved with him financially. Sooner or later a catastrophic case of mobo will happen and we could end up listed as co-defendants in civil court.

How about an i3 something like 2105 or 2125 from Micro Center. It has HT, and HD graphics 3000, i think. Since you need to run dual monitor, you probably need a cheap GFX.

thats the only thing i'm still debating, i3 sb or i5 (sb)
i know i3's are fine for gaming but since he does do photoshop too..

the HD3000 can run dual monitor, but cheap gfx will probably do better

I'd look hard at an off the shelf system unless you are going to be available to fix every hardware problem. Easy enough to get setup as a Dell partner.

Good choice on processor. I think i3 can easily handle accountant stuff. Since i3 has HT, so PS shouldn't have much issue. Its design to use HT when the efficiency of physical cores is not goint to be compromised. Depending on the GFX, i think PS CS6 under right settings, can use GPU for accelerate computation as well.

That's a good point, almost mentioned it myself. Anytime you add-in an expansion card or something the PC vendor will point to that as a potential problem, and definitely won't support it. Anyway, I'm sure you'll do the opposite and then buy a ragged out Mercedes on the way home. ;)

I think later versions of Quickbooks are RAM-hungry.

This. Just get a mobo that can handle future upgrades to ram and a lot of it.

8 gigs should be sufficient for quick books for now right?

I believe Quickbooks is still a 32bit app (as of the 2011 version it was). If it is, even with a 64bit OS there is no way for it to access more than 4 gigs of memory.
