I have every Nintendo console with the original packaging, controllers, and games. Maybe I'm sitting on some money... But yeah, scarcity and nostalgia drives up prices. And Ebay prices suck these days, it's tough to find deals compared to the early days.
The only console I have is the original classic playstation, and the only game I have is Final Fantasy 8. The Balam Garden theme song is just relaxing to listen to... I fire it up to play the card game, of all things! It's interesting how the in-game graphics now are better than the pre-rendered cutscene graphics from back then.
I remember watching my fried geek out on whatever the last FF was for the PS1. Used to sit there and witch that shit for hours watching him scroll up to a "battle" and then the cinematic cut'scenes during certain attacks. That shit was high-end at the time for consoles.

When my grandma died we split up the game systems she had. I got an original Atari, my cousin got a Nintendo with the deluxe set http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.O.B. and my brother got a N64.
