Recently the remote stopped working. Changed the battery, ordered a new remote and still have the same problem. I'm pretty sure this is still a thing that would be covered under warranty but is there anything easy I can try to fix myself?
Does your civic's AM radio seem to work ok? I know on MBZ the AM radio and RF keyless entry both use the antennae booster to get signals. I had a keyless entry issue (changed the battery etc) and nothing seemed to work. Found out that the antennae booster fuse was blown. Replaced the fuse and everything was good again (though I should have really looked into wht blew the fuse in the first place). Edit: I don't think Honda uses anennae boosters. Might just be a bad FOB.
Yeah sounds like a fuse, Had this happen to me with my mustang, Was stuck in the middle of nowhere for 6 hours. (Couldnt start my car without unlocking it first, Im glad i no longer have it =P)
What year/model civic? Yeah, check the underdash fusebox for a "keyless entry" fuse. If not it/they may be in the underhood fusebox or behind the underdash fuse box. http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AI/AII27882.pdf
Good point about the fusebox. Didn't even give that a thought. It's a 2005 Civic DX (IIRC, I always pick the wrong one) and I put a kenwood cd player in it last year when I got the car. It's raining and cold as hell so I'll check the fusebox when I can.
I may look at the car tonight (drove to cbus and back for work)...Does anyone know where to look for the fusebox? On my jeep and older cars it's easy but this is the newest car I've owned. I didn't see it behind the glove box (didn't take it out) and the pdf for the instructions didn't point its location out.
One is uder the hood and the other should be behind a panel under the steering wheel. Step 3 of page 1 on the PDF.
Well I checked the underdash fuse box and found one called security but the fuse isn't blown. Could it be called anything else? I didn't see anything called keyless.
You know, I just noticed you have a DX. Keyless entry was not an option on non-power door lock civics (yours is a DX so that means no PDL). It was only an option if you had PDL. This is most likely an aftermarket Keyless Entry system so the fuses are probably gonna be inline with the harness so check behind the fusebox and look for a (usually) black box with inline fuse-holders coming off of it.
It is an ex. I just checked the acc/radio fuse and it's good too. I emailed the dealership where I got the replacement remote and they said something about having to reprogram the remotes...diag fee starts at $45. My warranty should cover this, I bought it used and they said it covered any problem when I bought it...ugh.
Took it up to the dealership and found the LED on my old remote didn't work with any battery. The new one at least lit up. This chick programmed the key to work with the car I guess because now it works. THanks for the tips though. I didn't even know I had an LED light it was so small.
Wow if it was one of those you could have just pointed it a at your webcam and see if it was lighting up. Good you got it fixed though.
