I was wondering what the best chemical to soak a carb in over night was. Dont tell me to use carb cleaner because thats a spray, im looking for something to just pore into a bucket and leave the carb in that overnight.

    Gasoline

Damn got beat to it, turpentine would work too, only if you cleaned it with gas or carb cleaner before using it.

I usually just spray my carbs with carb cleaner and hit it with an old toothbrush. It's allways worked well. How dirty is this carb that you don't want to use canned carb cleaner?

The carb has been sitting for about 8 years with gas in it, and its $600 for a new one so I need to salvage what I can. Ive only seen canned carb cleaner once, chemtool and I think I will pick some of that up later.

Carb cleaner is magic. I use it from degreasing all the way to removing paint, it evaporates quickly and is very powerfull.

If you dissasemble the carb and take out all the little rubber pieces and soak the parts individually varsol works wonders. You can buy it in giant 4L and Tub sized quantities.

The best is the big metal paint bucket of carb cleaner (called immersion carburetor cleaner) but you can't just throw a carb in there. It will destroy anything that dissolves, like gaskets, seals, and o-rings. Instead you have to disassemble the carb into all its pieces and only soak the parts you're supposed to.

If you just want to clean certain parts, spraying carb cleaner works okay. But don't soak a whole carb for any reason.
