I think Trend Micro came with my laptop but it's going to expire in 25 days and I don't reeeeaaalllly feel like buying new stuff, plus I don't have anywhere to put a cd to install anything So I was wondering if any of you know a good free download for an antivirus....?
This. Although I don't recommend using it with any other antivirus programs as Lurker suggested. Anytime I've seen more than one running at a time the results have not been good.
I thought avg was subpar now? I've had avast installed for quite a while and had far fewer false positives than I did with avg.
Agree with comrade Smersh, got feed up with too many false positives from avg. MSE is low on resources, discrete, and gets the job done
I run everything through Sandboxie. I might be wrong in this, but it feels like a better defence than an antivirus which relies on keeping up to date with the latest bugs. Sandboxie presumes every file is dirty until proven innocent. Antivirus simply screens for files it KNOWS to be dirty and misses the ones it doesn't. Again, I may be wrong.
Again with the MSE. I use it and spybot picks up what MSE misses. The two seem to play well together.
Security Essentials is good, and its free and updated often from Microsoft. I would also dl MalwareBytes, which is a great way to scan for other spyware that AV programs don't pick up.
