I am currently driving an 03 Honda Civic EX Sedan. Decent car, reliable, great gas mileage, cheap to own, yadda yadda, but it isnt fun to drive or cool and the air conditioning/headlights suck and it is noisy inside... and I'm kind of going through a mid life crisis at 24. I'm thinking about picking up an LS2 powered CTS-V next summer. I like them a lot. Not sure if I want to lose the Honda, or keep it. It would probably be cheaper to just sell the Honda and split the commuting between the V and my Cummins, the Cummins I don't care about racking miles up on ever since I will never get rid of it but the V I wouldn't be keeping forever. Somebody try to talk some sense into me(who is debt free atm less house payment).

While it's a really cool car, $60K is a lot of money to drop on "cool". I would stay debt free if I were you.

I'm looking at an 06 for around $25k, less than half of what they were new.

Ahh... In that case... sell the Honda and buy the Caddy if the mileage is good. :)

Just called my insurance company and got a quote, seemed really cheap then I heard her say CTS, I corrected her and told her it was the V, then I got the real quote. Pretty steep, I'm going to hold off untill I turn 25 next summer and re-evaluate the situation. In the mean time I will spend my money on cherrying out my Cummins and house.

Sexy! And yeah, used Caddy's don't hold their value but I personally think are a good value. One of the better American brands, well built and with style and swagger.

And hell yeah on the boring Honda. I love mine for all the reasons you gave, but it's dull as shit.

    They're pretty sexy.

I am complementing a Chrysler 300C/Dodge Charger/Dodge Challenger/Dodge Magnum currently. Probably used. Although I can get a Dodge discount so I am thinking a bare min 5.7 of any so I can get it for around 25k out the door.

Chrysler? OK, you lost me. Styling is OK, and they can be fun, but a more poorly constructed car you'll never find. Buy used and you can save a bundle, and you'll need it for maintenance!

Well, most of the value lost is when you drive it off the lot, then a couple years after that, I don't think I would ever be upside down in the car. Percentage wise the car depreciates only slightly more than my Honda. I have a friend that has owned several of these and loves them. The maintenance is a lot easier and cheaper than a comparable German car. I love the GM LS series engines too, powerful and efficient.

Oh yeah, I was just saying they're a good used value. I would buy one new or used, it's one of the few American brands on my list.

Cool cars, good motor with lots of benefits. I haven't sat in one but I doubt it's as nice inside as a German or Japanese luxury car (might look as nice but not as good materials/feel)... That said I am sure the ctsV is the most fun car of this type. I'd be sliding that thing all over. They look nice too.

I was in a similar situation when i bought my new Mustang. It wasn't the smartest financial decision but man every time i drive it i instantly smile. If the caddy will do that for you, go for it.

The Mustang is another one on my list. Trouble is we get snow around here and there's no AWD variant (yet).

My mom drives a CTS and her last two vehicles before this one were CTSs as well. She loves them. Me, not so much. Compared to other similarly priced luxury or near-luxury cars, the CTS falls really short. For similar money, you could get a newer and much more optioned out Hyundai Genesis. While not as fast, they are super nice vehicles. Not really a whole endorsement per se, but just an example of many other nice vehicles in the class.

I had an 05 CTS with all options. The car was awesome and was well made. I kind of miss driving it around.

+1. Damn that makes me miss my S2000. :( Some day I'll get another one as a DD. Ahh too many cars :D

True that! The Genesis looks GREAT and seems very peppy. Considering its price and quality/reviews, I would definitely look into it / test drive if considering $25k etc. on a used Caddy. But the CTS-V will always be a bit different (bigger/fancier looking in some ways) than the Genesis.
