Hey Guys, So this is the official Tweak3d announcement of sorts, I (along with a handful of partners) am opening a micro-brewery in Southern California. It will be called Bravery Brewing and we will initially be brewing on a 3 barrel (90 gallon) brewhouse. There will be much more info to come, but I just wanted to make the announcement now. This project has been in the works for several months now, but today we finally settled on our lease agreement and signed all the appropriate paper work. Next step is waiting for our Conditional Use Permit to be passed by the city, and from that point we can file for all the appropriate liquor permits. Our brewing equipment has been purchased and will be delivered within 4 months. I hope you guys feel special, this announcement is being made to you formally before most other people. Website and facebook page to come shortly.
Nice! Congrats on the launch man. Edit: Don't forget to brew a T3D limited edition run of "Testicular Anthrax".
Fantastic! I'm totally stoked for you, Dan might finally have some competition in the Dream Job category! So if you don't mind me asking, how much time and money and hassle is required in getting the permits and liquor license? Also, I'm sure you've already got some recipes in mind. Could you share with us the styles you'll be brewing initially? IPA, ESB, etc.
I've got a few name suggestions: IDB Ale 2 Girls On a Bus Ale Fat Black Ass Stout (for Torx) GGs TTs Cream Ale I could come up with these all day...
Thanks for the encouragement. I will absolutely post a link to the facebook page once it's up and running. We will realistically be opening our tasting room doors mid next year, and of course, local T3D'ers are invited to the grand opening. As far as permitting goes, we need a type 23 license through ABC which should take 2-3 months to come through and the TTB license will most likely take about 3 months. Congratulations, yo! I'm stoked to see what you start crankin' out! Any sort of focus or is it going to be all over the map?
I have a laundry list of recipes I want to brew, but ultimately, we're starting at small enough of a scale where I can experiment and see which beers become most popular in this area. Lots of Spice/Fruit Beers, Hybrid Styles, and a Barrel Age program out the gate.
So with a 3 barrel system, how many batches do you think you can crank out a day? The economics are just swirling around in my head. I guess the trick is in the distribution, you going with an established distributor, selling online, etc? Here in Cincinnati the successful micro-brews all have trucks/crews that work the festival circuit. You could almost make enough money selling beer out of a refrigerated truck to sustain a business. Work all the festivals over the summer, spread the brand around, and over the colder months work on direct sales. But wait, you're in So-Cal. There are probably festivals year round, right?
I would be willing to buy online. As of now me and a couple buddies drive down to Lancaster, CA about once a month to a specialty liquor store to try out all their booze. Dont let the motivation of true alcoholics not surprise you. Last night I drank a beer called "MISSION" from San Diego. Ever had it? Lurker? Dj? Cant wait to try out your beer Dj
Operation will be entirely draft sales to begin with, and shipping beer in the state of CA is illegal as far as I know.
