My current Sony BluRay player upstairs plays all of my movies just fine but just recently, it won't play the newer BluRays. Is this a firmware issue? Like Contraband and the new Mission Impossible. WTF?
Firmware or setting on your device. My PS3 wouldn't play Mr poppers penguins worth a damn and when researching it, found there, was some audio setting that was goofy on the PS3. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, check the Sony's website and you'll likely find a firmware you can slap on a USB thumb drive and load. Depending on it's age you might simply chose to replace, the load times on the newer players is vastly improved. As for me I have an LG that overheats and seems to have frequent HDMI handshake problems. So I'm replacing...
My firmware is up to date. All the PS3's I own play these newer BluRays. This one Sony BD player even says it's currently up to date via the LAN hook up and it does play most BluRays, just not some of the latest ones. I love Sony PS3's but hate almost everything else they make. They've always given me trouble. D.U.N.!
Probably some new DRM. I hear this is fairly common for BD players, and it's why I'll never bother with Blu Ray...
My thoughts as well if it isn't the firmware issue. Myself, I'm very dissappointed in BD's. Random lockups, high price, constant hick-ups all for a picture that really isn't better enough to justify the hassle.
My thought is that it's a new drm as well. Thought I had read once that BR uses an executable that runs each disk as an app, which sounds problematic from the get go.
Blu Ray is already a dead format really, if you think about it. Streaming is so much better in almost every way.
Until you know, the internet doesn't work one day. Quick edit: Don't get me wrong, streaming is pretty awesome when it works and I greatly prefer it. However, it also reaffirms the whole idea behind the fact that when you purchase a dvd/br you are purchasing the license to view the work and the dvd/br is only the medium. Even more so with streaming, content owners have been given (for better or worse) a way to not only control who views the work and where it's viewed but also how many times it can be viewed and for how long.
agreed also agreed. \the days of actually owning what you buy. Renting is the new owning. And it is all about controling piracy. I have no problem with that until it takes precidence over the actual funtionality of the product or when it's used to fish info to fill the experience with targeted advertising. The posibilities are endless. Read those EULA's, the infrastucture to spam and track interests, view times, any pertinenent info that may boost sales of any given product is already in place with network capable media devisces.
