VIA Chipset = Not So Good

Choose a motherboard with a chipset by nVidia. With that said, I have a Biostar motherboard and it's decent. If you don't have plans to overclock, Biostar will fit the bill.

I have a Biostar M7NCD motherboard (based on the nForce2 400 chipset), and the problems I've had (IRQ conflicts) have been my fault. I don't know about the nForce3 line of chipsets, but last I heard nVidia had the best chipsets for the Socket 754 platform. Perhaps somebody else can contribute an opinion? I'm definitely biased toward nVidia. :p

Here are a few choices for your motherboard:

The difference between the nForce3 250 and the 250Gb is that the latter has an onboard Gigabit NIC.

Asus = great boards, especially for the price. I've had various problems (quality, compatibility, bios and chipset) with MSI, Biostar, Gigabyte, Murcury and even 1 Intel board. I have yet to experience any kind of problem with setup or anything else, with my Asus.
