Just watch back to back jaywalking episodes. America is VERY stupid. When a College student is seriously unable to answer the question "When was the war of 1812?", you KNOW the USA is working on being the "Dumber" of "Dumb and Dumber"...
Humanity is stupid, and there's a lot of ignorance here to be sure. But to call an entire nation stupid is beyond arrogant and just not true. We're stupid because we don't all agree with his extreme liberal views. If you think Obama is leftist take a better look at Maher.
I really don't care how extreme a comedian gets as long as he makes me laugh. I don't agree all of the politics of Maher or for that matter Dennis Miller but they both make me laugh. Although Miller made me laugh more before he jumped the fence or took his mask off or whatever he did.
The real problem with someone like Maher is the mindset that he and his are smarter than the vast majority of the people. Follow that extreme view to it's logical conclusion and what you'd have is a dictatorship or aristocracy. I mean, if the people are too stupid to make decisions then they should be ruled, right?
He may not be the most endearing guy, but from what I've seen he does base his opinions on evidence. Unfortunately, as he said in the clip, he didn't have the time to list off the reasons. On his show he likes to cite the educational statistics of various countries and point out how far down the ranks the US is. I don't necessarily enjoy his blunt approach, but I still watch his show. He's an earnest asshole.
Like Bill O'Reilly, he makes his money by being provocative. His smarmyness is what gets him ratings. No such thing as bad publicity, and all that...
Check out Fareed Zakaraia's book The Post American World. Our educational numbers are brought down by the inner cities and ghettos frankly. As he says, in America we don't have an educational gap but rather an equality gap. From the affluent schools we produce more than enough engineers, scientists, etc. And the quality of our education is superior, as the American teaching methods produce students with thinking ability rather than just test taking memorizers like those in Asia. Just look at the number of patents filed here compared to other places. To the point that Asian governments are sending their experts here to study our methods.

And this is why we get to loose or rights and freedoms. because the stupid ones outnumber the people who want to use thier intelect. Those that are too lazy to think, are giving it all up for us.
He makes any respectable liberal look like a fucking idiot, just like Limbaugh does to respectable Conservatives. We can disagree with one another and not hate each other.
Having seen some of the brain-dead patents granted lately (like the infamous crustless peanut-butter sandwich), I think the patent numbers are padded, frankly, in a quantity-over-quality kind of way. Especially since the bozo-brained decision to allow patenting of "business methods".
