Who's surprised? Their service sucks, prices aren't competitive at all. The only time I walk into Best Buy these days is to touch a product I'm interested in buying. Then I go home and order it from Amazon or NewEgg...http://money.cnn.com/2012/03/29/markets/best_buy/ best-buy.gi.top.jpg

They are okay pricewise in Canada. As long as they don't bring Futureshop with them if they go down the drain... (FS was bought by Best Buy).

Best Buy is good for touching and price comparison around here. But yeah...I agree with you Kain...I hope one doesn't drag down the other.

In my town Best Buy basically went to shit when the competition across the street (Circuit City) went away.

They had a go here in the UK, they didn't last long. Prices were all at manufacturers RRP, sucked ass.

Sounds reasonable. And they sure did open a lot of stores back in the day.

So now they're going to be like RadioShack: primarily a phone store?

Pft! Radio Shack. I've walked into one of their stores maybe twice in the last 10 years, and they didn't have what I was looking for either time.

Because it's the only reason Radio Shack is still around, they don't have the volume of parts, toys and batteries to stay afloat without cell phones.

so my friend signed on for a best buy account and has to make payments every month. but then the store closed in her area and she hates shopping online. but they won't let her out of her 3 yr contract! she is so upset...there must be something she can do? she only signed up so she could shop locally so this seems really unfair to hold her to it. :(

I'm confused.. does your friend think she doesn't have to make payments anymore because a store close to her isn't going to be there anymore? It's kind of silly to think you can get out of a contract just because a store closes. There are thousands more and "hating shopping online" isn't a good enough excuse to get out of a 3 year contract I don't think. Not that that matters anyways because Best Buy doesn't own the credit card company that your friend owes money to. HSBC owns it, I believe.

    Two questions:

    Are you actually a mum?

    And are you actually spicy?

100 stores is a drop in the bucket compared to the total number of stores they have. They wouldn't go the way of Radio Shack anyway. They make a lot of money off of their own brands (Insignia, Dynex, Rocketfish, etc).

Radioshack converted in the same manner from the glorious place it used to be, to what it is now. It was an analogy.
Watch and see what happens. If there's more $/sq.ft. to be made from setting up lots of cellphone counters than box stores,
it's the way things will grow go.

Everyone at work says "why don't you just get it at best buy." I respond with "I don't want overpriced crap."

hhgreg (or whatever they are called) killed them in Chicagoland, I used to go in for some appliances and xbox stuff because basicly wherever you go its all about the same in price but for computer hardware they cant compete. Now its all frys, hhgreg, and Im lucky enough to have a tigerdirect in driving distance.
