While were on the subject of yogging... Can anyone recommend some at home workouts. I am not really looking to buy a workout bench or any big equipment, probably just some dumb bells or something like that.

Push-ups are always good, anything else? Or some good resources.

    Thanks!

This is what i follow currently (on the right side)
Very basic but intuitive exercises for specific muscles, with different techniques, laid out in simplicity. I do shoulders/neck one day, upper arms another, chest/abs, forearms, back, legs. Weekends rest.
The animated gifs help out too, so make sure to turn on animated gifs.

Our school gym is closed for now until May 7th so I had to work out here in my room. I have PowerBlocks so I did biceps and triceps today. Then I went for a yog which is pretty killer going uphill.

I've seen/heard about P90X and it's supposed to be nearly impossible but pays off if you go through with it. It doesn't seem gimicky or anything since it looks like the people are really beating themselves up with real exercises. Someone on another forum did it and got pretty good results. It says all you need is some dumbells, a resistance band, and a pull-up bar. It's kind of pricey for videotape but I'm sure you can find a "sample" online somewhere.

I happen to be working through the p90x program right now. And I can attest to the fact that it's no gimmick. It's a hard damn workout! The best part is I can do it out of my tiny little apartment. Got myself a door mounted chinup bar, some resistance bands, and some pushup bars. When I first started it I couldn't do back to back days cause I'd be so sore (I was starting from a zero fitness level) but by week 3 I was in a good rhythm and felt like I was getting somewhere. But then I went to vegas, came home with a cold, then started working 14 hour days, so it dropped of the priority list. I'm just getting back into now though. Only an hour or so a day, and it's a pretty enjoyable workout. Lots of variety. Make no bones about it, this workout is a challenge. psst... torrent search

I feel no need to bother with a gym membership or fancy equiptment anymore. And the nice part about this workout, imo, is that it's as hard as you make it. So outgrowing it won't really be a problem. Before I started, I watched the videos and thought "yeah, no problem", but some workouts it's all I can do just to make it to the end.

I do 20 pushups, 30 situps, 20 pushups, 30 situps, and then 30 reps each arm with this:

its just a peice of steel I found in my garage, it weighs 25-30lbs. I am planning on starting to ride a bicycle this summer. If all goes as planned, I will get a job testing ATVs and Jetski's for Bombardier which would be around 6 hours per day of riding.

This right here. My roommate did p90x for a few months and said it wasn't a gimmick at all. He was always completely exhausted after those workouts.

Search youtube and google for videos of workouts. They're everywhere. Every personal trainer in existence wants to be some celebrity fitness trainer so they promote themselves like crazy. Barbell workouts and body weight/resistance is what you should search for. Pilates and yoga will also help out your core strength and flexibility and requires nothing but a soft pad so you don't kill your knees and such.

I alternate days. Usually when I go yogging, I come home and do reps of sit-ups and crunches, and then the days I don't go yogging, I do something to work the rest of the body, whether that be some little dumbells that I have, or push-ups, or whatever.

Wow...last week, my son was awake when I was doing my push-ups, and I thought I would get him to lay on my back while I did a set. A 28lb weight on your back while your doing push-ups...insanely sore after that first round.

Cool, now I have a bunch of ideas to get me started.

Thx Torx that link pretty much covered everything imagined.

Those power blocks seem kind of like a good idea, probably check those out too.

    Hmm self.com nice ;)

For now I am doing 3 sets of 15 triangle push-ups, 3 sets of 15 wide arm push-ups, and 3 sets of regular push-ups. Then I walk and ride my bike to work, so its a decent start.

For the guys doing P90X, what's the nutrition part like? Is it tough to follow?

I don't have the nutrition documentation so I can't say how close I am to the guidelines. I would probably feel and see even more of a difference if I did follow it, but I'm content to just eat as appropriately as I know how. I don't have the post workout drink that they recommend either, but I usually mix up some whey protien that I have (whether or not it's similar to what they suggest idk).

I know on youtube they have some making-of stuff for p90x and one part was about the nutrition aspect of the program. Pretty standard meals. Chicken breast, brown rice, veggies, beans & lentils and what not if I remember right. I know the diet adjusts over the 90 day program. I believe it starts with more protien and then in the middle it ups the carbs.

There's probably a lot of good free info on the beachbody message boards.

i saw the infomercial for p90x the other night and it looked impressive. the problem i saw with it is that all the people that were doing it weren't overly fat and out of shape and it looked like it was kicking their ass. impressive results but I doubt I would have any chance of actually being able to get through it being so overweight....

by the way torx, that is a fantastic website you posted. thanks.

I think they recommend doing their milder program as a prerequisite to P90x, it's called P90. I was slim when I started, but my cardio sucked and I wasn't very muscular either, I just said to hell with it figuring I'd do what I was able.
At this point my improvement is still nothing to write home about, but it's noticeable.

The workout is good that way. Once you get through the first couple weeks you'll know pretty well how many reps of each exercise will be a pace that will allow you complete the workout. Once you've got all nicely recorded then it's just a matter of slowly increasing your wieghts or reps. To keep pace with these people you have to be mad. As they say in the infomercial "do you best and forget the rest" :wasted:
