So I'm on the verge of a 3D projector, and am curious if anyone else has gone down the 3D rabbit hole. In particular, anybody playing 3D downloadable content? I know that 3D MKV files exist, but how to go about playing them through one of these babies?

Doing it? No. I have it and have tried it but that's about it.

I've got a 63" Samsung 3D Plasma but I never use 3D. I need to get a new receiver that can pass 3D content, then maybe I'd use it, but probably not. I still think it's more of a gimmick. I'm more looking forward to 4k displays/content personally.

4K is pretty interesting, but I for one think we might have reached the end of the road in terms of resolution. Just like digital cameras stopped advancing in the 14-16 megapixels, I think beyond 1080p will be overkill for standard 2D viewing. The exciting thing about 4K for me is the prospect of glass free 3D, or at least cheap polarized glasses.

I just bought a new receiver and it has 4k pass through and 4k upscale:D

I'm looking forward to when the tvs start coming out for the same reasons MSP stated.

Kinda surprised so few of us are going 3D. It's cutting edge, and HELLO! The name of this forum has 3D in the name.

Unless you have a room that you can dedicate to being a home theater room, with no distractions, and you're sitting less than 10 feet away from the 3D images, there's no point in my mind.

I go to the movies, and if they're showing the movie in non-3D as well as 3D, I'll pay for the non-3D movie.

The only movie I've ever been amazed by in 3D was when I took my kids to go see Happy Feet 2 at the IMAX. THAT was cool because all you could do was be immersed, especially when it was underwater with the krill.

Yeah...I won't bother with 3D until I absolutely have to, and that's when my current TV and receiver bite the dust.

I love 3D and would love to have it home, but don't. I think I got the 50" plasma right before Avatar dropped. It's the first HD TV I got and it still amazes me how good shit looks on it. I can barely stand to watch SD anymore.

I still like going to the theater for the big visual flicks, but this is still only a couple times a year. I've only seen Avatar, Tron: Legacy, and Prometheus in 3D, iirc. So 3D gets me out of the house, which can be a good thing.

^^^ Yeah, that's a good point. Since I've put in the theater room I go out less and less. At least to the movies. And now that I finally pulled the trigger on the 3D projector I've got virtually no reason to go. Except Rifftrax live stuff, and similar.

Hey, just a quick update on this thread. I did pull the trigger on a 3D projector, maybe I'll post a thread about it. But the main thing I wanted to convey is that every 3D movie under the sun is available on torrent, and as long as your media player can handle *.m2ts files you should be able to play them back on any 3D TV or projector.
