It's how Dad and I spent our summers when we lived there.:) I got $2,000 in flakes and a $600 nugget."This is 1992 worth." Me and him uses to go collected sccrap metal of the beach too. Some my best times with my Dad.

Making money like many things in life, is all about Location, Location...Location. Now we just go around with our metal detectors and arrowheads.

$1M for all that work? -the overhead, - employee wages, - (all the other bs) = fuck that.

I would have stuck it in what's-her=face and went back home with a win.

$228,000/117 oz for two guys (Christy Rose's owners) on the last day......Enough to get a lease for 67,000 that will be prime ocean bed enough for 10 years?
Fuck the nay-sayers, I could do that. Let's go torx. I'll start designing a dredge.

whiskas is in! lets do it!!

yea, parting and gathering necessary dredge materials and shipping up there would be easier.
then putting it together up there
looks like nome is a half ass little town with absolutely nothing going for it.

    i like that pontoon.
anything with a cabin to get out of the wind, etc.
how do they scout spots? metal detect underwater or using a device for scanning the sea floor?

everyone in that show looks like meth addicts or drug addicts, i wouldnt be surprised if thats where all their money goes to
i wonder if they trucked that excavator up there or if they had it literally shipped up there.

the thing about sea floor dredging and land dirt moving to me, seems like more expenses moving dirt and gas, more man power
while all you gotta do out at sea is keep the boat fueled, stay warm, and suck the sea floor up. simple. lot less money spent.
and their little boats look like shit, little to nothing spent obviously.

The trick is to keep it simple and get reaqlly lucky. The sea floor prospecting is made largely by "reading" the contours of the floor with sonar/depthfinder and knowing a bit about how gold washes downstream and deposites.
the same goes for placer mining. It's all in the "read". You read the creek/waterway and hope you're lucky. I doubt those are meth heads as much as alcoholics. Oklahoma has their Okies, Arkansas has their Arkies, but Alaska has their Alkies. But a large thing you see with the people on that show is the lack of importance on just plain looking good to impress other people. Priorities change when you live in a place like that.

A lot of mining on large scale compared to small scale gets down to the math. IE: If it takes two ounces of gold to recover a pound on small scale mining, is it better to spend 6 ounces to obtain a pound on the large scale? It's a balancing act that gets lost many times when the "fever" hits.

yea, i get what youre saying about the smaller vs larger mining and profiteering.
you gotta find that balance between a good size setup and getting good gold to cover overhead+profit

i would be excited to do something like this, but i dont see how these goons are spending upwards of 100k for their crappy ass little boats.
im like.. wtf? you can get some cheap shit off craigslist for far less.

Most of those guys are probably buying used crap up there and refurbishing it. Everything is a lot more up there. What we'd pay for a pump and motor down here, could very easily cost 5-10 times more up there.
