Hi guys! im new to the forums, thought this was the best place to ask my question!

Well, i have a PNY 68GT, which i absolutely adore, it plays games such as FEAR and DOOM 3 on amazing settings with great performance.

However, i thought id overclock (im new to overclocking) it to get a little bit of extra horses and get a few more FPS. I Used the Detect optimal frequency setting from the NVIDIA control panel and it set it to 425 Core 1.17 mem latency. But, when i tried to run a game, i realised that the game would play fine for ten seconds then hard lock for 5, and this repeated itself.
So, i set the settings a bit lower and still got the problem, my card does not seem to like being OC'ed one bit, as it still works fine if i set it to stock settings.

I was just wondering if theres something else to be done that would stop the problems i get when i overclock, as for hardware im running,

    AMD 64 3200 'Clawhammer' S754
    1Gig PC2700 DDR RAM
    PNY 6800GT 256MB AGP '77.72 FW Drivers'

the reason im not using the newest drivers is that when i used them i noticed that Counter Strike seemed to be a lot more juttery.

    Thanks in advance guys !

If you're just overclocking your video card and nothing else, it's not really worth it. You'll get 2-5 FPS boost over stock speeds and it's not worth the instability problems.

The extra heat from overclocking causes a phenomenon known as electromigration. Without proper cooling, you'll shorten the life of your video card

Ah i see, id still like to know what causes the strange problem though, i have friends who are more or less running the same hardware and the same card, but dont experience this silly jutter problem

Whats your PSU, and i reccomend getting the Zalman Heatsink for your card. I got one of those and my GPU never cracks 53C
