So the new HL2 level lost coast must have stressed my vid card out a bit because i was getting green flashing textures. When i quit and looked at the temp it was around 65. I started it up again, this time with a 14" fan blowing into the side of my open case at full speed............ No glitches. So from this site what would you recommend? http://www.coolpc.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=127_3 Starting to get hot here in OZ and i seem to be having lots of cooling problems! THere is two pages....i guess it will be one of the zalmans again?
http://www.coolpc.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=127_3&products_id=771 Is it an AGP or PCI-e card? I'd go with one of the Zalman coolers, myself, unless my card doesn't have a heatsink on it's AGP bridge chip.
This is the card http://djstudio.a4.cz/pictures/gainward_6600GT_AGP_2.jpg AGP gainward. Pretty easy to install a new one is it?
Ah. A Zalman wouldn't work for you anyway, dank or not! You'll need to find a HSF that will make contact with the bridge chip as well as the GPU core.
damn! Lucky i didnt order it! Whys that Goofus? Because that red heat sink on my card covers half the area of it? Do you know of any types?
Try looking at newegg. You don't have to order from there, but that site has lots of information, reviews and links to manufacturer sites, then you can look for your pick locally... I basically avoided buying the cards that had that type of HSF, because of common complaints of overheating. Ease of installation of these things varies from "Finally! Finished!" to "AUGH! What have I gotten myself INTO!!!!!?????"
Why cant i put the Zalman on the GPU...then just buy another smaller heat sink for the bridge? Like this http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/xfx6600gtagp/images/bridge_s.jpg http://selke.de/zalman/leadtek-6600gt-zalman-full-size.jpg
I dunno. I'm beyond my depth here. I know the attachment points aren't there, but you might still be able to attach it with thermal paste. I don't know why more expert folks haven't picked up on this thread yet...
