Here we have an unknown brand (Teisco?) guitar: It belonged to my girlfriend's father, but was just sitting in her brother's closet collecting dust. My girlfriend and I are turning this into a project of epic proportions. And a cameo by my girlfriend's cute butt. We cleaned all the hardware in a Brasso/Silver Cleaner/Vinegar solution. It took off virtually ALL of the rust/corrosion. You'll see that once we reassemble the guitar. We sprayed the first coat of red on yesterday! It'll definitely need to be sanded a bit and resprayed, but it's getting there. We did a few more coats today, but tomorrow will be the final day of painting/sanding/clear coat.
Very cool, seems like it's coming on nicely and will be unique when it's done. Just one suggestion? It looks like you put that spray paint on very thick! You might want to instead try a couple super thin (I'm talking less than 50% cover) coats before applying a regular coat. It'd probably result in a nicer finish and be more durable. Also it will dry faster. Since you're sanding anyway no worries. You've got some fine painting skills with that brush.
HAH, yeah Dan... I totally fucked up and knocked the damn spray nozzle of the spray can off. *facepalm* It took two cans to cover the body, and some serious sanding was done after that first abortion of a can. It's drying in the basement right now. We'll be wet sanding it in the morning, then putting on the clear coat. My girlfriend drew out the paisley stuff on the pickguard and we both worked together to paint it. We hit it with a clear coat and put it aside for now. Oh, and thanks Lurker!
The electronics are looking to be a little iffy, so the two potentiometers (vol/tone knobs) might need to be replaced. We really just put it back together for the pictures (and the lolz). Assuming the electronics are in working condition, I hope to have it completed within the next few days.
HAHAHAHAH!!! Nope, although the guitar was her grandfather's first (lol, whoops?), Teiscos are such pieces of crap that it didn't really matter what we did. It might look cool and feel cool, but it's not exactly a top-of-the-line guitar. It should be a fun player though. Oh, and Octane is referring to an incident that happened about 6 months ago. It was the first time I was meeting her parents and I was down at her house helping move stuff from the in-law apartment to the attic of the house. During my last trip up to the attic, I put my foot down in the wrong place and fell up to my thigh in master-bedroom-ceiling. You can still see where her dad patched it up, right above their bed. Her mom absolutely LOVED it, and I guess her dad wasn't too pissed.
...and here's a weaksauce demo. I did all the wiring today. Sorry about the lighting, by the time I got around to doing the demo, it was dark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBBujdSqlZo And more girlfriend + guitar : I was completely surprised at how smoothly it played. I had to shim the neck a little and compensate the bridge to get the strings over the massive neck pickup, but after a thorough setup, it plays VERY nicely. The action is PERFECT right now, and the frets are in remarkable shape. It doesn't play like a cheapo department store guitar. It's a PLYWOOD BEAST! Even though the bridge isn't adjustable beyond 2 height thimbles, it's quality and it sounds nice. The single problem with this guitar is that the A string tuner takes about 25 pounds of pressure to tune fully. A little WD-40 in the morning should help that. I thoroughly cleaned everything with metal cleaner another time. And the greatest news all day: I might end up just keeping this guitar for myself. Although my girlfriend and I worked together in painting it, it was funded solely by me. I dunno, it'd be cool if her brother wanted to get into guitar... but DOES WANT! And since my nice Nady condenser microphone shit the bed, this is all from my macbook's built-in.
If I ever needed a single string guitar... she'd probably be the one to sell it to me. Much Props. *Patiently waiting for the sound link...*
Oops! Forgot to change the youtube embed tags! *d'oh* And the parts where there's other music playing: that's my loop pedal. Everything you hear in that video is the Teisco. I have an octave pedal that I use instead of switching to the bass you see in the background. All original songs btw. Sorry, no Freebird. And apologies for not being Thadood.
Sounds good. A little fuzzy but thats probably the mic. I like the last riff/loop btw. That's catchy.
Bump for pickguard #2. This one was painted by my girlfriend as a present for me. Since these two came out so wonderfully, we're offering a service on the two guitar forums I post at. I made the thread last night and already we've gotten 3 requests (2 for pickguards and one for an entire guitar body). It's a lot of fun to do, and we can make some coin from it too.
