Shark Multimedia Predator 3D PCI

Introduction

Shark Multimedia has been making modems, sound cards, and other multimedia peripherals for a few years now. Their products stick out because of a combination of low cost and good performance.

The Predator 3D PCI is yet another card based on the Aureal Vortex chipset.

Installation

The installation was simple. You have to find an open PCI slot, push the card in place, then boot to Windows, install drivers, reboot, and you're ready to go.

Features

The only difference between this and the DCS S805 (cheaper A3D card) is slightly better MIDI performance. The DCS card is about $15 cheaper though, and offers everything else this card does.

Aureal A3D Interactive support
Sample rates up to 48 kHz
Studio quality 64-voice wavetable synthesis w/ 4 MB instrument sample set
Amplified speaker output
15 pin D-SUB analog/digital game/MIDI port
OEM Jedi Knight (3 levels)
Other MIDI/Wave editing software

Price

This sound card is pretty hard to find.. I suggest searching on Shark Multimedia's homepage for specific retailers. The cost is about $35. (there is an ISA version also)
