Introduction
This review should have been
done about 6 months ago, but since I'm including the
I740 in upcoming comparisons, I felt it was important
to review the Real3D Starfighter. The card uses the
Intel I740 chipset. This chipset was not as widely
used as Intel had hoped, and already it has pretty
much faded away. The chip is not bad at all. After
reading this review you will probably change your
mind completely about the I740.
Technology information
Real3D really did put out the
best I740 card. The board as tested contains 8 megs
ram, and supports AGP 2x. One of the important points
about the I740 is the claim to excellent image quality
and good performance/price. The board can handle bust
some 1280x1024, eclipsing even Voodoo2 SLI.
Installation
Some video cards have a pain
in the ass installation *cough* Riva, where others
like the Starfighter have a perfect installation (at
least for me). Find your AGP slot, push the small
card in place, start the computer, install drivers,
and you're done.
Features
The card (as tested) did not
have Tv-output or any extra features. It was a plain
old 8 meg card. It did come with an interesting bundle.
