Congress held hearings today about the Stop Online Piracy Act and it seems that both sides of the aisle are keen on passing it.

    Quick blurb from HuffPo:

However everyone seems to oppose this including: Libertarians, Tea Partiers, Demand Progress and Mainstream Conservatives. Regardless of your feelings on piracy, this bill is the **AAs pushing to make the government and ISPs do their dirty work for them. And quite frankly, Obama's Justice Department is partly to blame for the amount of power they currently wield in Washington.

Contacting the Congress is a quick way to look up your representative's number.

i mentioned this a few weeks ago, noone seemed to care.

its a nice little combo of sopa, protect ip, and the streaming act... all three could be devastating to the internet.
in my personal opinion.. this wont happen overnight. something like this creeps in slowly. and for those not in the know, google has been censoring the internet for a long time now... they drop websites off their search list everyday, the internet is already being censored and people dont even notice it.

it doesnt surprised me big hollywood and big music is pushing this shit through.

in the end, this iteration of "internet" will slowly decay into nothing while a new iteration is being born.. one thats probably more hard to access, more dangerous, and more uncensored.. oh wait. its called deepnet.
or until a new form of communication arises... one that cant be monitored or restricted and continues the anonymity the original internet first brought us.

you're right Torx, case in point:
The internet didn't start out as a giant sales tool. It was developed to share ideas, information and porn. Just look at it now!

Obama and Biden have both publicly stated that they would not sign off on any of those bills. Nonetheless, it's extremely important to make the call. There was a huge push on Tumblr to take action, and the results were pretty impressive:

I find it weird Obama won't sign off on this considering how pro IP he is and the fact that he hired half the RIAA's legal team for the Justice Department.

Oh and just found out both Apple AND Microsoft are pro-SOPA. GG Linux?

i think we need to start preparing a backup plan.
one way or another restrictions and censoring is coming.

tl;dr: the only level-headed thing Joe Biden has ever said.

Ron Paul is my representative, he's one of the few republicans opposing it.

Much like some of you would say "You lost me at FAUX News or The Blaze Or Drudge........that's what I'm saying here. You lost me at Huff PO."Go Newt! I dare Obama to debate him because regardless of Newt's politics, anyone with a brain knows he would outshine Obama. .......and not just by a little bit.

Of course Newt would outshine Obama, he has far more experience at bullshitting people.

That'a all politics is: the art of bullshitting people.
    IE:
The art of selling refrigerators to eskimos,
the ability to get a charge of butt-rape lowered to a traffic infraction of "following too close/tailgating",
the ability to tell people what you know they want to hear, and not commit to anything at the same time,
being proficient at the skill of plausible deniability.

No BS! Try watching him tonight and tell me he's not highly intelligent and well rounded in whatever question is thrown at him. He will destroy all that dare to take him on!
