That is definitely the most prudent idea and pretty nice of you. I'm sure she appreciates it :)

Yeah, the bike idea is actually being floated. I mean, within safe biking distance from our house are many places she could work. Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, restaurants, etc. Trouble is her current job is not safely commutable by bike.

    Damn... :)

And by the way, if your wife doesn't actually exercise, no wonder she's such a wreck. Exercise is the best remedy against pain and mental disorders. You just need to build up the courage to fend off some pain at first, before getting relief.
    Dustin says thanks for this.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about. I do agree with you on the Cavaliers (they are fun to drive, but just don't last for shit), but the Impala is anything but a bad car. The 3.4l motor isn't an absolute power house, but does drive the car quite well. It has good power, and gets pretty damn good fuel economy (32+ highway). What would you consider efficient? It has a very comfortable ride, yet still provides ample feedback to the driver. It has plenty of interior room, but doesn't drive like a boat. What would you consider comfortable? Would you rather have a 1966 Lincoln Continental or maybe a 1978 Cadillac El Dorado? The build quality isn't bad at all, and the price isn't bad.

You're very much entitled to your opinion but that says it all right there.

I have been fortunate enough to drive hundreds and hundreds of different cars over the years whether through working at dealerships when I was younger or from my years instructing novices at racing events. My most miserable moments came from driving cars such as the ones you listed and recommended.

Everyone looks for something different out of a car and has different standards so it's a moot point. I felt obligated to share my opinion & experience of those cars since you were singing their praises.

shh! foreign is better because it's foreign!

anyways, find cars people are selling, have her test drive the living piss out of them, see which one she bonds with. if you're stuck in a car you hate, regardless of how "good" it is, you'll always hate it.

i personally love just about everything put on the W-body platform since when i want it to do something, it reacts in a way that pleases me. no, it's not a racecar, it's not a luxury car, it's by and large a platform that was intended to last ~100-150,000 miles and rust away into nothing.

    BUT

i connect with it. i've been in "better" cars and hate how they react to my actions, so fuck that.

He doesn't know what he's talking about, but you believe that a Dodge Intrepid has "stellar" build quality, think an Impala gets good fuel economy, and (as mentioned) say that Cavaliers are fun to drive.

Foreign is not better because it is foreign, they are better because they have kept up with changing technology, where domestics have not. They have continued to advance at engineering, where domestics once again have not. I can see how you think GMs are good vehicles if your expectation is for a car to last 150,000 miles. A good car should last you 250k, if not 3, without major work. Just today I started pulling the motor out of an '03 Camry. 315,000 miles and maintenance was not kept up on and it was abused... that is what I consider a reliable car.

If any of the people in this thread raving about GM/Chrysler actually worked on cars I can guarantee their opinions would change.

<-- works on GM shitboxes on a regular basis.

still choose to drive them over their direct competition.

and i'm implying that GM expected them to be driven MAYBE 150K miles, then junked.... however, almost every W on the road today from ~96 and earlier (and holy shit are there a lot around me) have exceeded 200,000 miles, most with no major work required.

I have been holding my tongue because I dont really care about swinging around the E penis but I have forgotten more about vehicles then you will ever know Mr wanna be pep boys mechanic. I may not have "a pay attention" to me thread about things "I fixed" but I do know what the fuck I am talking about. I choose not to make trivial post because I could give less of two fucks who knows what I did or fixed a certain day. And I dont post online because there is always a bad ass at every corner of the net who swears his word is the only one that matters and thinks it is cool to belittle people. I have built more than a couple vehicles from the GROUND up. Not just random maintenance bull shit like you post about.

People are giving their opinions. The original poster can take them for what they are. Another persons opinion. I suggested a cavalier because I have personally owned one and personally put over 100k miles on it. The car I owned never had any real problems other than it needed the A/C recharged every year. Have you personally owned a J body and put over at least 60k miles on one? Or are you just being an internet parrot? "READ AND REPEAT! SQUAWK!" ...just reading what you read on another forum and spewing it out your "information" to anyone that will listen?

I also suggest Lumina because again. I have personally owned one and it has been completely problem free from the day it came off the show room floor.

LOL, you mad, you mad! :D
I'm glad you like the thread about "what you did today", in case you haven't noticed there are multiple people who post in there, it is not a thread to "show off" what I did for the day, although somehow you got that impression. Its so everybody can show what they've been doing, and ask questions back and forth if need be, and mostly because more or less, this part of the forum is dead and I wanted to keep a somewhat active conversation in here.

As far as fighting or belittling, if you look back at the first page, you will see that you are the one who began throwing personal insults in this thread. I said Cavaliers were crappy cars because in my opinion and my Pep Boys experience, they sure are. I have owned one, and I did not care to drive it around for 60,000 miles because it was a money pit waiting to happen and they are pieces of shit, I wanted to get my money while the thing still had a couple dollars of resale left in it. I find it highly amusing that you hold some kind of personal attachment to Cavaliers to the point where you would take what I said personal. It is also funny that you felt the need to turn this into a pissing contest. But more of an immature, sad, "not very bright" type of funny.

When I said "anybody who works on cars", I was referring to those who fix cars for a living, which there are a handful of on this forum. What is the point of giving a suggestion to MSP if you aren't exposed to a bunch of different vehicles all the time? If you are just driving your car(s) around, only working on your cars, you don't really have a wide array of experience, or a clear view of the bigger picture, do you? For somebody that has "forgotten more than you will ever know", I would expect much more than that. I'm happy that your Cavalier is a sparkling diamond, but most of them are just pieces of shit. Not to mention, a '96 Cavalier in Ohio is going to be rusty and nothing screams "white trash" more than a rusty old Cavalier, or maybe a Cutlass Ciera, Celebrity, Achieva... you get the picture. MSP doesn't strike me as the "rusty GM white trash" type. Maybe he could start by purchasing a 3rd gen F-Body.
