    We gonna need it! :D

For all the buildup, Irene's supposed to hit the CT shoreline Sunday evening as a Category 1 Hurricane. I have a wedding at the Groton sub base on Saturday but after that I'm going to hide in my girlfriend's brick dormitory until that shit passes. Hope my bread crumbly walls don't fall down at my own place.

All of my friends who live in Manhattan can't decide whether to stay in the city and get flooded out or go out to the suburbs and get killed by a falling tree.

Oh no, it's gonna rain!

I mostly spent my day today being amused by all the people running around panicked all day trying to find batteries and flashlights and stuff (I work in a pharmacy in a big retail chain store and they were out of flashlights, batteries, and water within a couple hours of being open). Honestly, who doesn't already have flashlights and stuff in their house?

I personally don't really think much about it other than, "Oh look, a storm is coming." Being all worried and panicked before it comes won't stop it from doing whatever damage it's going to do. I plan to just chill at home for the weekend. If any situations arise, I'll deal with them then... and I'll likely handle them way better than all the people who spent several days before panicking and worrying themselves sick. ;)

That eye is still coming right for CT. I'm looking forward to it. NOT looking forward to losing power for up to a week though. Sparky they also changed it.. It's supposed to start hitting us Saturday night.

I love the ocean, but there's something to be said about living inland. I do want to ride out a hurricane sometime though, preferably in a pub with a generator.

People tend to horde things that they already have a supply of.
That's why I have a couple generators, fuel and a water well.

I am as prepared as I can be. Already have mandatory evacuation for my neighborhood. Me and several friends (most of whom have lived in my neighborhood for 30+ years) are sticking around as long as we can. We have 2-3 houses which we can relocate to if needed. We have chainsaws, tree climbing gear (harnesses, ropes, handsaws, etc...), sandbags, and all of our toolboxes on the ready. I am moving pretty much every tool I have into my truck. That way we can combat this the best we can. I have a stockpile of food, camping fuel (for camping stove), propane, batteries, candles, blankets (although shouldn't be needed), tarps, and water (water heater + all sinks filled + a dozen water bottles + bathtub filled = enough to survive for a few days). I am planning on bunkering down and riding it out. My house is built extremely well (built in 1925, never had any structural issues in any natural disaster), and I have everything I need. I will be moving my truck to the highest ground in walking distance, sandbagging all basement entrances, setting up the sump pumps, and enjoying the ride. I have a few other locals that will join me so we can ensure the houses in our neighborhood don't get looted and ransacked.

Might be scarce for a few days, but will update you guys as I can!

Living near galeston, I mock your fears over a cat 1 hurricane. Anything less than a cat 3 and I stay home.

But good luck to y'all and new yorkers enjoy.your looting ;)

Well you know, weather can turn on a dime sometimes. A forecast isn't written in stone these days. ;)

Will sounds like he's prepping for the Zombi Apocalypse. LOL

I have just suffered the first emergency of the storm... The flush arm just broke on my toilet. We must now resort to manually lifting the plunger to flush our toilet. With our ample supply of beer, Sailor Jerry's, Evan Williams, and mixers, we will survive.... Somehow... Please keep me in your prayers.

OK.... Flooding has come! I have water up over waste deep in my basement. Destroyed my kegorator, the washer, and the dryer.

Power is out, but we have a generator. We are running the TV, Fridgerator, the surround sound, the cable box, and a big construction light. We are still enjoying our drinks! Life is still good!

We took out everything that we could, but ran out of room. Aside from the washer/dryer, we only used the basement for storage. We knew it would flood sooner or later. Just didn't know how far off it was. So, we will survive. Will most definitely get back to where we were!

Ouch Will, but at least it didn't cause an electrical fire or whatnot.

I'm in a hotel near the Groton sub base, wedding yesterday. Even though Irene has substantially weakened, not quite sure how we're getting back to Hartford. They only closed one major highway, but the rain is coming down in sheets and its just the beginning of it for us.

Back in shelton there are tornado warnings and the eye is projected to pass right over my parents' casa. Yikes!
